I just don't buy this BS that Roy's body was effected by the weight gain and weight loss. When he fought at LHW, he probably walked around at around 185. When he fought Ruiz, he weighed 193. That's only an 8 lb difference. People can't accept that Roy should have just stayed away from Tarver, Johnson and Calzaghe.
I thought it was 193. Still, that's not THAT much of a weight gain where it'd wreck him. If it did, he's pretty ****in' fragile.
He didn't,he put on muscle. But the weigh-in was 2 days before the fight so it can happen to put on a few lbs.
Well you are obviously alrady brain dead so one can only hope that the body follows as quickly as possible. Roy Jones Jr does not and never had a glass jaw. Amir Khan has a glass jaw and by comparison Roy's is made of solid adamantium!
ok expert - look at the poll, very few agree with you. Why would there be an excuse for his HW fight? He won that one. Beat a HW at less than 200 lbs.
From watching Roy's fights with Griffin (1st one) and even that turd Pazienza, I could see Roy didn't deal with pressure all that well. Sure, eventually he knocked both those turds out.. er was on his way to knocking Griffin out, but he struggled -- well more with Griffin, but think of Johnson and Calzaghe's pressure tactics. I still say Roy would've lost to both of them.. or probably got KO'd. When Calzaghe's hands weren't so ****ed, he could put more power into his punches, and no matter what alot of people think, I still think Roy's chin would've shattered in his so-called prime.
Roy was DQ'd against Griffin and dominated Pazienza. He lost his aggression after Mclellan, but came back mad after his DQ. Look what happend when he had something to prove. Knocked Griffin the **** out within a few seconds. He took punches from Hopkins, Toney, and Ruiz. Didn't start getting hurt till he got old.
He was on his way to Knocking Griffin out before he got DQ'd. He never took any "Solid" punches that I saw until Tarver. He got hit, but not too solid. As we saw in the first Griffin fight, staying active, throwing alot of punches and pressuring is the way to go. Griffin laid the blueprint, but was unable to keep it up. Johnson and Calzaghe COULD have. Borenard and Toney didn't pressure Jones enough-- that's why I think they lost.
Not seen many Roy Jones fights eh? How do you think every fighter Jones fought tried to fight? Jones ate up people who pressuerd him generally.
