roy jones jr has NO legacy at 160,,168,,175 or over 200 pounds because he never fought the elite fighters at any weight division he boxed in.

roy jones jr won a vacant middleweight title and made 1 defence he never fought the best at 160 at that time
    John David Jackson
Chris Pyatt and he Ducked the two elite fighters of the division Julian Jackson and Gerald McClellan

A list of the elite fighters at 168 that roy jones was Ducked when he was in that division
    Graciano Rocchigiani
Steve Collins 2 weight champion at the time
Nigel Benn 2 weight champion at the time
Michael Nunn 2 weight champion at the time
chris eubank 2 weight champion at the time
    Charles Brewer
    Frankie Liles
    Robin Reid

BEST at 175 was Dariusz Michalczewsk
roy jones won the vacant wbc title vacanted by Fabrice Tiozzo.
Fabrice Tiozzo lost his wba title to Virgil Hill then came back and beat Mike McCallum for the WBC light heavyweight title.

Dariusz Michalczewski beat Virgil Hill for the undisputed light heavyweight championship and holds the record for the most consecutive successful title defenses at light heavyweight 23 defenses. He was champ for 9 years an had a incredible 48 and 0 winning run

roy jones ducked prime Dariusz Michalczewski for 8 years and did not fight him even when he was shot

why did jones fight 35yo taver instead of Michalczewski?...........

why did jones fight ruiz instead of lennox lewis?..........

Too the people that hype on about prime jones jr take off the rose tinted glasses he lost too a bunch of old guys anyway
    Antonio Tarver was 35
    Glen Johnson 35
    Danny Green 35
Bernard Hopkins 45 and joe calzaghe was 36 and at the very end of his career

Jones NEVER beat a Unified, Undisputed, or Linear Champion in his whole career. Think about that for a second.

Roy's legacy isn't about the details. It's about the fact that for ten years he was the best pound-for-pound fighter in the world, and no one could lay a glove on him.

When you are carefully and craftily moving though weight classes to avoid the best challengers is that really impressive? :think

Jones record isn't great but he was an exceptional talent. And I agree he did duck top fighters.

I really don't think any of the guys Roy Jones allegedly "ducked" would have had any chance to beat him.... Roy was ****ing ridiculous in his prime.

    Calzaghe:

    Traveled to fight

    Beat a Unified Champion

    Beat a Lineal Champion

Beat Jones head to head in embarrassing and easy fashion and Calzaghe wasn't "Prime" either.

Was never brutally or embarrassingly KOed multiple times.

You could argue Jones was a paper champion for most of his career. He ducked the 2 top LHWs of his era in Michalczewski and Erdei

Was Roy Jones a paper champion in the divisions he won world title fights in, between winning the MW title up to his fight at HW with Ruiz?
    Read on....

At MW Jones won a vacant title against a then unknown unaccomplished fighter in Hopkins. Should Jones have been declared as the MW champ for this win or should that honour have gone to J Jackson who although also won a vacant title fought at a higher level and won his vacant title against a then higher rated more accomplished fighter in H Graham.
Should Jones have been declared as the man at MW?

At SMW Jones beat Toney who wasnt a great SMW and didnt have a very good SMW resume. N Benn and C Eubank were more accomplished champions who were fighting at a higher level.
Should Jones have been declared as the man at SMW?

At LHW it is without a doubt that Michalczewski was the man at LHW.
The Ring LHW title disappeared in the 80s and reappeared in the 90s where it just handed its belt to R Jones, but if the line of you have to beat the man to be the man had been followed, the belt should have been handed to Michalczewski for his victory over V Hill. Dariusz was the WBO LHW champ but he also won and vacated the IBF & WBA belts before Jones won them. Also Michalczewski beat Rocchigiani who was wrongly stripped of his WBC belt.
So Michalczewski had claim to every one of Jones belts and should have been Ring champ.
Michalczewski was the MAN at LHW.
Should Jones have been declared as the man at LHW?

At HW Jones beat Ruiz but I doubt anyone felt Jones was the man at HW with L Lewis as champ. Still same question to the fans. I remember a comment that Ruiz beat Holyfield who drew with Lewis.
Should Jones have been declared as the man at HW?

It does appear that Jones fought some good fighters but never against the top man of any division up to his fight with Ruiz and was only ever a paper champion in these divisions. Also Jones was fighting alot of gimmes and beaten fighters.

that stuff does not mean much. Some guys look for the easy guy to fight who is in line with that. Jones is great no matter what.
