he ducked many guys but he did beat Bernard Hopkins, James Toney and Virgil Hill which are all HOF fighters. Each of those guys he fought at mid.supermid,ltheavy. Hill was over the hill when he fought him 11 years after Hill won his title, but still it was a nice win.

What had Hopkins done when Jones beat him?
Toney had a terrible SMW resume and was struggling with the weight
Hill had just been beaten by Michalczewski

Roy should've fought Michalczewski, but other than that, his resume is solid. Toney was ranked by some to be the top fighter P4P when Roy beat him and he also beat a young Hopkins. Reggie Johnson, Virgil Hill, Lou De Valle and Montell Griffen are all guys that could contend with and possibly beat anyone fighting at 175 today.... and the late 90's LHW version of RJJ would have dominated just about anybody who ever fought at that weight. His chin may not have been great, but in his prime his reflexes were so good that he rarely ever got hit flush.... yes he could've taken more chances in his prime, but to say RJJ has no legacy is just plain ignorant.

RJJ beat world champions or number #1 contenders throughout his career and for 10 yrs on top of the P4P rankings.

    This list is garbage

    Graciano Rocchigiani
Steve Collins 2 weight champion at the time
Nigel Benn 2 weight champion at the time
Michael Nunn 2 weight champion at the time
chris eubank 2 weight champion at the time
    Charles Brewer
    Frankie Liles
    Robin Reid

    Chris eubanks first ducked Roy
Michael nunn is most likely the best chance, but He was starched by James Tony and never the same fighter after that .

    Graciano
    Charles brewer
    Frank Liles
    Robin Reid
please kick rocks with this pitiful list ..

Whatever your arguments on his resume the guy was just great to watch, with his unconventional style and showmanship. He was amazing. Thats the kind of boxer you love and remember.

Bernard is better overall but I find myself watching Roys fights on YouTube, not Bernards.

RJJ schooled 2 HOF fighters in Hopkins and Toney effortlessly when he was a young gun. For pretty much his entire career no one could touch him and he was the best fighter in the sport because there was no one around him that could have competed with him. He would have done the same **** to Benn, Eubank, Calzaghe, and G-Man.

    **** out of HEREEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE

Fighter of the decade in the 90's can't be a fighter of a decade and be hype at the same time.

There were great fighters in the 90's decade and for RJJ to win the award speaks volumes.
