At Middleweight he never beat Toney nor Jackson. He was never really the champ there although he did become number 1 rated in the division. his legacy benefits hugely from the future dominance of hopkins at the weight.

At SMW he never beat Benn nor Nunn, however he did beat Toney who number 1 ranked since beating Barkley. So this is the 2nd division that, whilst not being a true champ, he was ranked at the top.

At LHW things are murky: in 1996 Hill fought Maske. At the end of 1995 both Hill and Maske were ranked 1 and 2. However before they fought in 1996 Jones entered the division as p4p number 1 and defeated 2 top 5 ranked opponents. Now the confusion arises because the Hill - Maske fight occured 1 day after Jones - Mccallum. I'd argue that the new lineage did not begin the night of Hill - Maske because Jones ousted Hill as number 2. I would state the lineage actually began in 2003 when Jones (ranked number 1 [well ring had him champ but that's bs] fought Tarver (ranked number 2 [well ring had him number 1 but see above].

At HW all Jones did was beat a top 5 opponent.

So what do we have? a 4 division champ, no. We have a man who was ranked number 1 from MW to LHW (where he would eventually claim the championship) and managed to break the top 5 at heavyweight.

    The toughest challenge .
Benn and Eubank were fighting in the division against good opposition but Toney well
look at the level Toney was fighting at, when SMW champ

1993 he wins the title from iran barkley a fighter who years earlier was blown away by nigel benn in 1 round and pummelled to a loss by a shot roberto duran barkley went onto lose 11 out of 25 fights following this fight and never beat anyone who was remotely good in doing so,the guy was so desperate he was even plying his trade as a HW in the late 90's against the likes of berbick and they say this era is a joke

govonor chambers a guy with a career record of 9 wins 7 losses, all 3 fights prior to toney were ko losses!

ricky thomas: won 11 lost 14,the 4 fights he had prior to toney all losses!

glenn thomas:won 29 lost 8, lost to roy jones prior to toney and finished his career with a first round ko loss to jeff lacy.

danny garcia: won 30 lost 22, was coming off losses to chris pyatt (a steve collins victim) lamar parks etc

larry prather: won 19 lost 24,lost his last 5 fights prior to the toney fight even losing to nicky piper

tony thornton: won 37 lost 7,lost to chris eubank a year earlier.

anthony hembrick: won 31 lost 8,lost to maske prior to toney and orlin norris a year earlier.

tim littles: won 27 lost 3,maybe one of his better wins, had fought mainly bums with the exception of a close UD over frankie liles, went onto lose to frankie liles in a 2nd contest following the toney fight.

vinsom durham: won 21 lost 37 enough said.

charles williams: won 37 lost 7 drew 3,lost to maske prior to toney.

and finally the Jones fight and, That was Jones big SMW victory where Toney was alledgedly weight weakend, other than that Jones didnt do much at SMW.

Eubank and Benn though had some good genuine SMW victories

Benn beat Wharton, McClellan, Nardiello, Galvano and drew with Eubank

Eubank beat Watson, Rocchigiani, Wharton, Holmes and drew with Benn.

I dont think you know ****, just look at Toneys SMW resume :patsch

You have to be a talentless nonentity to not be able to perceive what a supreme and untouchably great boxer Roy was in his prime.

In fact, to NOT see what an absurd talent Roy was, you almost have to possess an equal amount of anti-talent in your ability to judge boxing ability.

Rico, you possess this extreme degree of anti-talent.

So are you trying to big up Roy as a big win for Joe in your previous thread but then turn around and say this ****???

If he's as overrated as you're making him out to be, then why are you saying its a solid win for Joe???:rofl:lol:

Love how you just killed your own arguement!:good

I never have questioned his skill I have questioned his Chin and his reluctance to take big fights. Clearly he could have taken several to prove how "untouchable" he really was but he flat out refused to do it. I am sorry but fighting the Glen Kelly's, Rick Frazier's, and Richard Hall's of the World doesn't do it for me. Plus he was knocked down by Del Valle in his "Prime".

at bailey, my phone wont let me quote u
riddle me this. benn retired in 96 on three straight losses so he wasnt relevant sinxe lets say 94 well lets see roy wasnt a super middle til 94 and after two fights he went right back down then back up to sm AFTER benn was retired so if he fought him in 96 before he was retired how much better would that have made his resume have been outside of just having a name of a shot fighter on his record ala
    calslappy
now lets look at eubank, eubanks last fight at super middle was slappy in 97 but before slappy dragged him back down he fought at lhw for two pryor years so his last fight at super middle when he was relevant he got beat by steve collins in 95 so once again how would this have been a better win than toney! fans an there double standards.
    obviously u know ****

yes good points of course and yea he never beat a lineal or undisputed champ and never fought some great fighters

but he beat many good fighters and won many titles and was p4p for a long time

his talent and ability was incredible

to say he is a fraud is wrong, to build him up as an unbeatable superman is wrong too

with any great you can nit pick the **** out of them

    jones had a great career
