http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r6MHoYQyakU I didn't realize how sharp Jones was until watching these highlights, but he looked pretty good for a 39 year old, just not vintage Roy but I don't think anyone was expecting that. He's looked the best since pre-Ruiz and you have to give credit to Roy. His punch output isn't there like it used to be, but he was very accurate with his shots. I would like to see him fight another day, I don't think he's done yet.
Roy showed flashes of his old self. He still has great speed. But his abysmal workrate, fading reflexes, and legs concern me. He's still good enough to beat some B class and C class fighters, but his days as an elite or competing on the elite level are done. And as a Roy Jones fan, it saddens me to say that.
Exactly. During 15 seconds of every round, he'd look great, but most of the time his legs weren't there and while he blocked most of the shots quite skillfully, i don't think he'd get away with it against an active, younger fighter of his own size.
Just to add. What made RJJ so special besides his blazing hand speed were his incredibly light feet (which allowed him to dart in and out and throw punches from all different angles) along with his cat like reflexes which allowed him to avoid punches. Both are long gone. And you don't get those back. If boxing was based just on hand speed and being able to put lightning fast combinations together once in a while, RJJ would be an elite fighter. But too bad it's not just about that.
