You're wrong about saying professional fighters don't get psyched out. You're right when you say mental readiness is extremeley important, but wrong in assuming every fighter is always mentally ready :deal
You're also wrong in your assumption that being a professional fighter alone means you know more then others about other fighters and the sport in general.
Why Jones could not beat Tarver is a big mystery to me. **** even a shot Jones had too much skills in his pinky to beat prime Tarver and this is evident in few moments in their fights. But then he stupidly decides to lay on the ropes and let Tarver get his points.
in the last 20 years roy was clearly the best i have seen. this is always going to be subjective though.
He didn't "stupdly decide" to lay on the ropes. After moving to heavyweight and then dropping back down, his legs were SHOT. Thats the end of the discussion on that. It is an evidenced fact and not a theory. :yep
Well, he beat him clearly once. The third fight is pretty easily to explain. Roy's stamina was never the same after Ruiz, and you can chalk that up to whatever combination of age and or weight swing you agree with. His reflexes also slowed considerably. He had great moments against Tarver in their third fight, especially the fifth round where he worked off the ropes, but he couldn't knock Tarver out, and between the pace Tarver set and Roy's fear of getting caught again reaching from the outside, he was simply outworked.
Don't be like that dude :rofl Ok let me bring some fighters in here for a video interview atsch And I do fight professionally and I KNOW that there are other posters on here that know more about boxing then me.
i'm being honest with you - i never fought professionally and i never said i have. i fought amateurs for along time and it went a long way to making me who i am today - but ive never sold anything more than ive achieved in real life...
I'm dropping this one. BAD is by and large a good poster. If he thinks I'm ignorant on this point, I can live with that.
Agree with you there Scur.....:good In his prime he was a sight to behold & possesed a skill that just cant be learned.....A true natural talent that should have hung up the gloves before the haters were given the amunition to slate him.
Because Jones got old. He never obeyed his body. You CANNOT loose 25lbs in musculature and expect to peform well in the sport as gruelling in boxing for 12 rounds. Jones had no business at his age coming back down to 175. His ego got the better of him. He paid the price.
We will never know how good he really was or could have been because he refused to take risks. And there is the issue of that fragile Glass Jaw. :deal
