Why don't you give us your definition and criteria of 'ATG' so we can better understand your disgust for putting Jones in that category.

For sure an ATG in my book I think he's the best SMW and one of the ever. Didn't lose a fight till he was what... 35? not to mention what everyone before me said

Roy Jones is an ATG. Not a doubt in my mind. I think I'd have him 30-35 in an all-time rankings. Maybe a bit higher, I don't know.

Roy was never THE Champion in any weight class he fought in. DM was THE unified lineal Light Heavyweight Champion. 2 of his belts were stripped for no reason and Jones eventually won them.

Jones was a belt collector nothing more. The lineage went through DM NOT Jones. He refused to fight DM. That is a fact.

When there is already a lineal champ at a weight class it means nothing when another guy unifies trinket belts. :deal

He did beat a 44-0 and no 1 p4p James Toney and a Tarver who had only one loss. Also, an undefeated Montell Griffin.

Jones, Jr. is a legitimate ATG, however, he no longer fights like one and should step down.

Please tell me you rate him in top 100 at least though? Don't you?

This is a pathetic thread and anyone who said he is just HOF worthy are complete ***gots. If I were to guess I would bet it's mostly non educated Europeans that voted for that. Don't get me wrong there are really educated Europeans here like Popkins and Addie but most of them are Calzaghe dick riders.

    He's definitely an ATG.

The achievements he had from taking titles at 160, 168, 175 and HW speak for themselves, those are weights very few people have managed to be consistently dominant at.

Looking at the wins he had in his career...

Bernard Hopkins, James Toney, Virgil Hill, Mike McCallum... All of these guys are undisputed HoF fighters. The first two are spoken about in ATG capacity and were handily beaten by Jones Jr.

Then the second tier of wins he had

Antonio Tarver, Clinton Woods, John Ruiz(*), Reggie Johnson, Montell Griffin, Vinny Paz and Thulani Malinga are all strong fighters who held titles or were knocking on the door of titles.

The John Ruiz win is made even more special considering the move up to HW from LHW.

He's done enough to be considered an ATG resume wise. It's more so that with his talent, people don't understand how he didn't retire at 35-36 with 50 wins, 0 losses, 40 KO's and belts from 160, 168, 175, 200 and HW.
