Roy Jones Jr. - Is he really an ATG?

I wonder how many of them would vote that way if it was a public pole. What a bunch of ******s.

 

Yes. I have him somewhere around 80 or so. Like I said before his resume DOES NOT compare to those he is compared to on here.

I think A LOT of people on here judge Roy on what they THINK he would have done not what he actually did. It does not work that way. He did not take some fights that would have solidified his legacy without question(s) from me or anyone else. But Jones did not do that.

Yes Jones is a top 100 fighter but he is NOWHERE near 25 or 30 that people put him at on here. Most of the people putting him that fight are kids that were not even born when SRL, Ali etc. and others were fighting. Hell most of them were not old enough to watch Jones in his 'Prime' they just repeat the verbal diarrhea that other people parrot.

 

:good There is nothing worse than watching a great fighter getting beat-up by a guy he would have demolished in his prime!!

 

Top20 or Top15 ATG.

Roy NEVER beat a unified, lineal, or undisputed Champion in his whole career. :deal

Hopkins was handpicked?
Reggie Johnson was handpicked?
Virgil Hill was handpicked?
Junio Cesar Gonzales was handpicked?
Antonio Tarver was handpicked?
Montell Griffin was handpicked?

He sure handpicked some hard fighters!

Ruix was 30 pounds heavier than him and held a legitimate world title.

Give the guy his due. If we're being honest he went 51 fights and 15 years undefeated(The Griffen fight doesnt really count in my eyes).

He won titles at Middle, Super middle,Light heavy and heavy.

The guys a top 20 ATG.

 

At least he rates him in the top 80 of all time considering how much he hates and clowns RJJ. He obviously knows Roy has some great skills.

Personally it would be top 40 for me for sure. Not really sure no one can be sure until they actually do an ATG fighter list.

Alton Merkerson: The fact of the matter is, those people need to mind their own business and get the facts right. It’s not that Roy fought whoever he wanted, it was the fighters that HBO, the governing bodies and that society wanted us to fight. Every time we fought those people we wanted to fight it was like, ‘well that really wasn’t the best guy’.

The people that we didn’t want to fight that they said Roy didn’t want to fight for what ever reason was [Darius] Michalczewski. The deal that he wanted was totally outrageous. You know you’re trying to fight for a man’s title and you want 50/50, you want parity. See it becomes business not just fighting when you get to that level, so people can say what they want to say, but Roy never dodged any fighter. Everybody that they put in front of him that they wanted him to fight, he fought and destroyed.

So in reference to me how I would rate Roy, I would rate Roy with some of the best fighters in the world. He should go down in history after the first of October, but you can’t satisfy and please everybody you just have to do what you think is right for yourself and your fighter. So that stuff they talked about Jesus Christ, some people talk and the things that critics say it doesn’t phase me at all, but when you look in the mirror and say that I didn’t do enough or that I’m not the best fighter in the world or categorized as one of the best fighters in the world, then you got a problem. But you know self evaluation is very important and I think that looking at Roy, he will go down as one of the great fighters out there.

Ummmm No. Ruiz was a paper Champion HANDPICKED by Roy because he had no had a KO in almost 4 years up to the Jones fight. Lennox Lewis was THE Heavyweight Champion of the World not John ****ing Ruiz. It was a joke of a belt. Lennox was the WBA Super Champion. You nuthuggers are blind.

Roy was a belt collector. Nothing more. He NEVER beat a Unified, Lineal, or Undisputed Champion in his whole career.

I was looking forward to Roy doing the 5 fights he said in his interview.
He can talk to the point he can convice you he still has it. But recent perfomances beg to differ....

I'd like to see Roy fight once more and call it a day.

Actually John Ruiz was the WBA champion. Lennox had the WBC and IBO belts.
