Resume just as good. Dominated better fighters. Better P4P. Was a better offensive fighter and got hit just as little as Sweet Pea. Pea is more skilled defensively, but Roy's once in a lifetime athletic talent gave him the advantage.

Firstly his resume isn't just as good, that much is for certain. And who are these fighters that are better than Chavez that he "dominated"??

Toney is fine to use (if you think he was better than JCC), but please do not say Hopkins.......

Either way I think your point is arguable...but you said "easily the best fighter since SRL". That's just not the case at all.

let's ignore the roids and how he went from HW champ back down to LHW middle weight etc.

I'm talking about the skills especially his footwork, how he could get a punch from nowhere with power, how he always dictated where the fight took place, how he always found his range, how he made his opponents look foolish. I'm talking about boxing skill. I fight mma and his skills are better than any fighter.

my opinion.... even though he lost a few fights in the end, screw who he fought... watching him fight was just amazing. it is like a boxing lecture.

Hopkins is just as good as Chavez Jr. All time.

Easily may have been a bit strong, but he's clearly better than Sweet Pea who was #2 on my list.

There are two types of "perfect" fighters in my book: Complete fundamentalists and Roy Jones Jr.

I think that statement is pretty much fact.

    1. Floyd Mayweather Jr, Sweet Pea, Bhop, Toney,Ward et al. all fall into the fundamentalist categories. Those fighters likely have longer careers because they are perfect/near perfect in boxing execution and take little damage as they rely on the exact boxing formula for success with "hit don't get hit" and when they do get hit; a shoulder or glove protects them.

Roy relied purely on reflexes and athletic skill. He took the boxing rule book and pissed on it. I have not seen a boxer with power in BOTH hands, speed at SMW faster than most at WW (I think he was much faster than Mayweather Jr) and reflexes I have not seen ever.

I don't care much for "resumes" when talking about skills. Fighters THESE days pretty much rely on business to make fights happen (not a huge fan of that but it be what it be).

He made great and near great and "good" all look about the same...pretty crappy. Even the best fighters have some damn near close fights against "good" opposition.

I can't place RJJ at any "top this or top that" compared against the great fighters now and before him. However I can say he was sensational when he was at his best and there is NO ONE that currently has that in the fighting landscape today. Pac Man is probably the closest and I am not a big fan of his (more pro Mayweather).

I also think it's a damn shame he didn't know when to hang them gloves up!

Why he gets so much hate on ESB is beyond me. Probably the same reason Kellerman gets so much hate for his commentary. However, I will say 95% of people on ESB don't have near the ability of Kellerman to analyze fights, know the history of the fight game and therefore don't think he can be faulted for liking Roy so much. I am a big fight fan, with ties to Kronk, and plenty of high profile fighters......

And I can say I am a HUGE Roy fan and will gladly put my .02 whereever I can regarding his skills. Peace .

Yes, I cannot remember another fighter with that many GIFs having been made of him.

All time means nothing. Look ath their respective opponents when they fought them. That's like saying DLH is better than RJJ because he beat Pea....look at the opponent when they fought.

Hopkins in 93 was not the fighter he would grow to become.

Might be unpopular, but I say Calzaghe beat a better version of Hopkins then Jones did (and I'm certainly no Calzaghe-lover).

Roy is one of my favourite fighters ever, unbelievable when he was at his best. He has a chance against any fighter in history, from middle to light heavy, regardless of what people say about him now.

everyone has the same opinion, the guy was like magic, but because of his mindset and his decision to fight through the ranks to HW you can't rank him, but maybe some guys can't be ranked, it's just the "skill of the sweet science" he had it, he threw the rule book out and boxed like a professor.

I watch his fights and still think.... how, how is it even possible.

the fact he showed his human side and took fights even when he wanst at his peak makes him better than may who thinks about legacy, legacy is about taking a fight. and RJJ made his opponents look like fools and even when he wasn at his peak he gave it everything.

I"m not going to disagree. I feel he's the most athletic fighter to have ever laced 'em up. That's not to say he's the GOAT because he's clearly not but in terms of physical abililty, when he was in his athletic prime at 168, he was unbeatable IMO.

Every ATG has their decline. Roy is no exception. He is among the top ATG's in my opinion. Prime for prime with anyone in history, he is a force.
