All Conteh. Kind of like the Calzaghe fight--1 guy doing all the minute to minute work and the other guy resigned to fighting in 2 or 3 second bursts. And that Conteh endurance is top shelf which is important. John establishes that jab and distance early in the first minute of the fight. And his good legs means Roy would have to be super aggressive with his footwork to cut down the distance to land his punches. And that falling in right hand lead from way on the outside isn't landing on a standup boxer like Conteh. I think he keeps Roy out of that comfort zone he likes to box from. I think the Conteh jab puts Roy in that uncomfortable zone and keeps him there. and Jones goes into a safety first type effort and not a grit your teeth and absorb and bore your way in and make the other guy smell your breath all night effort. Decision bout all the way.
ive always been a big fan of conteh and think on the other side of the pond he was much under-rated, but I see jones as a top 5 of all time light heavy and his hands were lightening fast.jones on points
jones was a different level of fighter but i'm trying not to talk down conteh because he could fight. at the end of the day, neither of us can prove anything.
Conteh would very much trouble Roy, though it is Roy Jones. I'm leaning to Conteh very close decision. Bit unsure.
Jones without any controversy. It probably goes the distance, but Conteh would be outclassed in a monotonous fight.
John Conteh was a good WBC light heavyweight champion from Oct 1 1974-May 21 1977, What plagued him was hand trouble, which resulted in ring inactivity, during his title reign. His very impressive defense of this title were unanimous decision win over Alvaro Yaqui Lopez, on Oct 9 1976, and Len Hutchins, TKO 3, on March 5 1977. He won his title defeating Jorge Ahumada, Argentina, on Oct 1 1974, by a unanimous decision. This after Champion Bob Foster refused to defend his title against Conteh. He was stripped of his title on May 21 1977, for refusing to defend it against Miguel Angel Cuello, Argentina. At that time, there was talk of a possible match against World Middleweight Champion Carlos Monzon, for the WBC Light Heavy Weight Title. Conteh was narrowly defeated by Mate Parlov, on June 17 1978, in an attempt to recapture the title. He was outpointing Matthew Saad Muhammad on August 18 1979, in a WBC title bout, when Saad floored him in round 14, to win a unanimous decision. He was a good counter puncher, and had a good defense with a fair amount of power. Jones won his light heavyweight title with a unanimous decision over Mike McCallum on Nov 22 1996. He holds a knockout over former champion Virgil Hill, with a body shot. He had a lot of good wins in his career, including a win over Bernard Hopkins He is quick and very agile, and can hit. A very exiting match up, Conteh as the aggressor, and Jones landing quick counters, rocking John on various occasions. The bout goes the distance as Conteh tires, Jones wins a unanimous decision. The difference here is the hand speed of Jones.
