Back on topic? Ha! How is talking about GG on topic? There's the other thread for that. I love my nickname. It's good. Especially as you can't read or write.
Of course. I've given the exact same advice to lots of people on here. But this guy provides me with so much entertainment, I'm happy to go back and forth. I just use him to pass on the time between my shifts at work.
I've found a great interview for you with "Iceman" John Scully. He mentions Roy going for a run in Vegas on the morning following the Toney fight. https://www.boxing247.com/weblog/archives/104565
Yes I know when his reign was and the fighters where borderline journeymen. The only fighter of significance was Michalczweski and they never fought.
Is that it? That's all you've got as a comeback? Tarver, Hill, Johnson and Griffin etc, were borderline journeyman? If you really believe that, then what does it say about the SMW division?
Johnson was a journeyman, a guy who actually couldn't cut it at 168 hence is move up to 175. Hill and Griffin where good fighters but nothing great, just good solid fighters. As for Tarver my initial point was that Jones ruled a soft 175 division....which it was. He then ran into Tarver was comprehensively beaten and this was the same Tarver who failed twice against Dawson who cannot cut it at 175 against the current crop. Nobody is saying Jones wasn't great but his competition at 175 was weak.
Johnson caught him at the perfect time, coming just 2 months after the the loss to Tarver. I love Glen, but I've never met or spoke to anyone who thinks he'd have beaten Roy pre-Ruiz. Tarver was a very good fighter. He caught Roy with a peach in the rematch, and he deserves all the credit in the world. Roy beat him in their first fight though, even though he was completely exhausted due to the weight loss. Griffin was an underrated fighter, and he showed his skills fighting Roy and Toney. Hill was faded, but he was better than just solid. He knocked out Fabrice Tiozzio in a round a few years later. You also had Dariusz, Nunn, Harding and Reggie etc. Although it wasn't stacked, it wasn't weak. Again, it was stronger than the SMW division for the majority of his reign, and you can clearly see that by looking at the rankings that I posted.
It was weak, Tarver couldn't cut it against Dawson and Dawson couldn't cut it in the division as it developed. Reggie Johnson...another solid fighter but a guy who once again couldn't cut it at 160 so he jumped 2 divisions and became a champion....here is another example along with Glen Johnson of guys who couldn't cut it at their weight so they jumped up and won titles in the weaker 175. What did Eric Harding ever do? He was **** poor average outside of out hustling Tarver in their first fight. Otis Grant....154/160 lb fighter Telesco Frazier Harmon Hall Kelly Gonzalez That's an awful list. And stop harping on about 168 being weak....I know your agenda....its plain as day.
Tarver was a good fighter. So what if he couldn't cut it against Chad? Chad was also a very good fighter. But after his weight struggles and his loss to Andre, he was never the same. Reggie couldn't cut it at MW? He beat Collins, and many people believe that he was robbed against Castro and Toney. Harding was a decent fighter. Why on earth have you mentioned Roy's low level mandatories and keep busy fights? What a joker you are. There's guys like that in every division. They obviously weren't the divisions best fighters. And after listing those guys, how on earth have you got the nerve to say that I've got an agenda? It's ridiculous that you've mentioned a guy like Otis Grant. He wasn't even a LHW. Look at the ratings that I posted. It's very simple. Just click on the links. Look at the main fighters. Again, it wasn't stacked. Nobody could say that it was really strong. But it certainly wasn't weak. A division consisting of: Roy, Dariusz, Hill, Reggie, Nunn, Griffin and Tarver etc, wasn't WEAK. There is no agenda regarding the SMW division. I'm merely pointing out that Roy fought in the strongest division that was available to him.
I listed Roy's title defences....I missed out Woods and Del Valle again good fighters but nothing to shout home about. Roy's title defences where weak.....the low level mandatories you claim I listed where Infact all his title defences up until Ruiz.....i know it's laughable isn't it. Answer me this if 175 was the strongest division around why could a guy who was a journeyman at 168 jump up and be a top 2/3 guy? No one has said Reggie Johnson was bad but again he was solid but lost everytime he stepped up at 160, yet he moves up 15lbs and becomes a champion. I suggest you go look at his title defences once he had beaten Steve Collins then get back to me.
Like I said earlier: You're an absolute joker. There's only one of us here with an agenda, and it's clearly you. First we were debating the strength of the division, and now you only want to specifically look at Roy's title defences. How convenient that you've suddenly moved the goal posts so we can't add Hill and Tarver to his defences. You also missed Griffin and Johnson along with Del Valle and Woods. I'm sure you didn't do that on purpose though, huh? Regarding Reggie, no, he wasn't great. But he won a MW title before he moved up to LHW, and he also had a great win over William Guthrie who was hyped at the time. I didn't say that LHW was the strongest division around. Why don't you actually try reading my posts? I said that the LHW division was the strongest division AVAILABLE TO Roy. He only had 2 options: SMW LHW Why don't you actually go and click on the links that I uploaded. It's clear which division was the strongest.
Yes and look at his defences at 160 until he run in JDJ and was soundly beaten. I did add Woods and Del Valle, I suggest you go and re read. As for Tarver he went 1-2 and this is where he had to face an actual threat at 175. As I've said if 175 was so strong you wouldn't have a guy WHO COULDN'T CUT IT AT 168 becoming a top 2 fighter, destroying RJJ in the process. It's very clear which division was the strongest and it's not the one where a solid but nothing special 160lb fighter and a super middleweight journeyman could become top dogs you absolute cretin.
