Can you really compare the two? I would say Jones just caz of weight divisions. Both all time greats. BUT NO ONE QUITE AS GREAT AS ALI.

Roy is fast as hell, but Ali was not too far behind. plus he was bigger, and WAY stronger. as well as had a granite chin... I love Roy but this would brutally go in the favor of Ali

It's hilarious how many casual or non-fans strut around proclaiming confidently, in no uncertain terms, that Clay was not only the GOAT but the strongest, fastest (hands and feet), and craftiest fighter ever, hands down, no questions asked...and in absolute, not p4p terms...

...without being able to name a single fight of his they've seen a shred of film of, other than the Rumble, Thrilla, or Liston. :yep

Jones had an edge in handspeed & Ali had the faster footspeed & reflexes (ability to pull away from punches & make them miss by millimetres)

    ali had quicker reflexes?

Roy has never been touched until he met tarver because of his reflexes and foot speed. He has more shutout fights(fights were the other fighter could not win 1 round) then any fighter in boxing. Roy defensive has always been his reflexis and foot movement. If you want to call it that. The guy leaps all around the ring. Roy lost his reflexes so now you see him use his gloves as defense. were you even around watching boxing when roy was fighting?

were you just looking for points to give ali? not saying he is better then ali because ali had power that lumps and bruises and those heavyweight lumps and bruises turn into hospital beds and emergency rooms for middle weights but you were all wrong. Ali was always getting hit clowning around with his hands low and playing roy would put his hands behind his back and ko a mfer, he wouldnt do a shuffle in the ring he would actually dance and starch cats with straight rights are you crazy? ali couldnt do none of this jones was the better athlete. Not saying the better fighter but by far all around the better athlete

I outta kick your ass for you stupid remarks.

What's even more hilarious is the instinctive reaction of many hardcore fans to underrate Ali, simply because of how famous he is. It's so much 'cooler' to side with more obscure fighters. I'm not saying that you're guilty of underrating the man, but I get annoyed when I browse forums and see this behaviour. It's true that Ali is hyped up in public to a ridiculous degree, but we often lose sight of just how good he really was as both a boxer and fighter. It's a shame.

Roy Jones reflexes are 2nd to none...hand speed wise i would say about even...and those calling Roy overrated get real...he came around at a time where there was no one near his wieght...what was he supposed to drop 30 pounds to fight oscar or shane...fact is he has beaten 3 hall of famers destroyed a prime James Toney and Bernard Hopkins (well he beat Hopkins when normal fighters would be in their prime) and Trinidad (after both were over the hill) and wouldve fought Trinidad in his prime if Tito hadn't lost to Hopkins in a fight Roy didnt want him to take cuz he knew Hopkins would beat him so please stop knocking Roy he is easily the best fighter of this generation

I'm certainly not one of the classic connoisseurs, and I won't claim to have pored over days worth of footage; but I've seen enough Ali to rate him appropriately enough IMO: one of the GOAT (heavyweights). Strong arguments for top ten. Suitable arguments for top five. A case to be made for GOAT but not a lock (as equally compelling cases can be made for a handful of others) - how much of this is due to circumstances that were no fault of his own we can never know but boxing is full of what-if stories. What I reflexively and violently rankle at is the iron-clad assertion that most casuals trumpet that he's the best overall p4p ever in terms of ability, and that he's so far ahead of the rest of the mortal pack that this can't be called into question. That just drives me absolutely bonkers. And I hear it a lot.
