Well, just the fact that you're comparing the handspeed and reflexes on an even level for fighters in different weight classes says a lot for Ali. Ali could move his hands quicker in combinations, RJJ had more p4p pop on his shots. I'd give Ali the edge in reflexes too, since he would stand in punching range and make you miss whereas RJJ used his feet to pretty much stay out of range 99% of the time.
Jones RARELY stood in the pocket. In fact, NEVER. The only time he was in range to get hit was when he was on the ropes, and when caught there he would use a high guard and then spin out. Ali would move his head an eighth of an inch to slip a punch and OFTEN stay in range to rip out counters.
Taylor had the fastest hands ever. There is a reason Ali was gloating that he could land punches on a lighter weight sparring partner. Ali had very fast hands for a heavyweight. I'm not even sure Ali's hands were as fast as prime Tyson hands were.
Hard to explain because you're completely wrong. Watch some pre-exile Ali fights before you post in an Ali thread, the man's hands were quick as lightning, not just for a HW, but insanely fast PERIOD.
Tyson WAS crazy fast, but he pretty much only threw short hooks and uppercuts. His jab was quick, but not freakishly quick like Ali's.
Its easier to hit those slow heavyweights. Not to mention, Ali's speed nearly disappeared when he came back. His speed should be compared to a prime Tyson or Floyd Patterson. Roy's speed is next to Taylor's.
Ali was 10x faster than Patterson. That's a ridiculous statement. You DO know they fought each other right? It's easy to compare, and there is no comparison. Also, Ali's handspeed didn't 'disappear'. His reflexes diminished with age, his fighting style changed, but he was still stupid fast when he threw his shots.
