If you would have asked me bit ago i would have said Jones, but im really starting to sway towards Pernell
Robbi and Stonehands, i dont get it, what's the deal? You guys have an ongoing debate on Pernell-Duran or something? Sorry 2 be nosey!!!
Stonehands reckons Whitaker would box the ears off Duran and win a decision. Even though Whitaker never had the power, his skills make up for what he lacks in pop to somewhat tame Duran. I disagree.
Im being put on the spot on Duran-Whitaker? I have dreaded this day since i became a boxing fan! The style seems to be bad for Duran, greatness on the outside, but you are right on the power issue, it was always stiff (at least) combined with boxing skills that made the trouble for him. Imo though Whitaker has underated power, i wont say he hit hard, but i think he could fight and hold his own aswell as box. Anyway, the issue i would like to bring up in Duran's favour is that Whitaker a lot of the time was 'in the pocket', and defensively brilliant with reflexes and slickness. As immense as he was in that department, i dont see anybody beating Duran on the inside at 135. I really dont know though, as Whitaker may not neccessarily be on the inside completely, and would definitely pick up poiints on the outside. I must make a pick, and i will pick my man, on the strengths that you pointd out, and that i think Whitaker would be spending time in the pocket with the best pocket man ever.
