After Roy beats Joe, and if he is to fight and beat Chad Dawson(who should beat Tarver) would he be on your p4p list? Where would he rate on your ATG list? For me, he would without a doubt jump into todays top 5 p4p list. I just want to know oyu opinions...RICO SPAFORDA no chin talk! Haha

for me its irrelevant when he fights joe (and i think roy loses).

    roy already has his legacy.

no offence but thats why you're british also...

if you're posting on this board and you're open-minded and confident in your view then how can 'rate' calzaghe for any other reason except that he's the fighter you've been saturated with most in britain?

    serious question.

    If that happened:

    9 - Bob Fitzsimmons
    10-Muhammad Ali
    11-Benny Leonard
    12-Roy Jones Junior
    13-Archie Moore
    14-Sugar Ray Leoanrd
    15-Charley Burley

I don't think I could move him above Benny. He wouldn't be above Ali that man has to many great fighters on his ledger.

    Something like that, I think.

i'm a calzaghe fan, have been since before the Eubank fight, but for some reason, i've got a funny feeling about this fight. i dont know why but i reckon RJJ has a better chance of beating joe than ol'Popkins did. I think alot of people are underestimating RJJ before this fight, Joe isnt getting any younger too.

    1. frank warren never - and i mean never - sends his nests eggs over to the US because that risks the momentum of his fighters and the money he can make domestically. thats why ricky hatton left him.

    2. the reason why he never had the exposure 'early on' is for the reason i said above. and i'll spell it out only because this is exactly why frank warren does it...

if you dont make your mark in the US no-one will take you seriously.

    just ask junior witter.

    just ask nigel benn.

just ask ricky hatton why he left warren and went chasing his dream instead of sticking with warren.

    3. calzaghe didn't "want" to fight jones or hopkins at that time.

you dont get to fight the best fighters on the planet at that time unless you earn it. fighting stiffs and building momentum in the UK does not give you a fanbase in the US or leverage to make a fight like that.

that's why ricky hatton went over to the US and took a chance.

and thats why ricky hatton deserves more respect than any UK fighter in recent time because, instead of whining about the fights he 'should have had', he did something about it.

    joe calzaghe never did.

if you disagree with any of this then tell me.

but for all the calzaghe fans who have tried to shield their belief with what you have just said i still haven't met one who is willing to back it up.

i know its hurt your pride to hear someone say it like this, but if you really believe what yuo say then you need to hear this.

and i'm willing to challenege any response you have to it.

    yes it is.

so why is it that evertime i post a bluntly honest post like this that people stop trying to reply to it and go into defensive mode?

answer the post if you donøt agree with it.

i appreciate that you can rise above that...but then you've fallen back into the old "joe is great" thing again.

i told you exactly why that isnt true and i'm challenging you to respond to that post and tell me why i'm wrong.

you have to put your opinions on the line more.

    Perfectly put.

Hatton should go down as a greater fighter than Joe because he had the balls to take on the P4P number 1 in his prime. Sure he lost but he went 10 rounds and was reasonably competitive. I suspect neither could have been said for Calzaghe if he'd fought Roy when Roy was prime.

    thats right.

and because calzaghe never tried makes hatton even more 'unique' among british fighters.

for my mind, i think it will be a travesty of justice if hatton's decision to make this break away from warren isn't put up in lights.

Actually Hatton isn't that unique, Honeyghan beat P4P number 1 Don Curry which should give him a greater resume than Calzaghe but won't because he went on to fight other greats and fell short. Tony Sibson and Alan Minter both had big enough testicles to face prime Hagler, Dennis Andries fought Hearns, Kirklaind Laing fought and beat close to prime Duran....

All these guys are currently overlooked by the UK media when it comes to picking great British fighters. Calzaghe was recently voted best British fighter ever in a national newspaper. Un-****ing-believable.
