Roy Jones Jr seriously thought about fighting Lewis in 2003. Could he have done it?

Lennox was a lazy semi retired fat slob by 2003, he was literally spending more time eating and hogging at various buffets then training. Roy meanwhile looked unstoppable and still had that blinding speed even at 193 weight.

Could he have done it and win a UD?

RJJ would have gotten brain damage much earlier had he fought Lewis in 2003. He didn't fight Lewis so he enjoyed a healthy brain for a couple years longer and only got his brain fried around 2008/2009.

Ya, maybe. Lewis was seriously lazy as **** by 2003 though.

He went on a god damn world tour after Tyson and even George Foreman said 'This guy should retire, he's just like a 'place holder knight' now and it's all just for show'.

I don't think he would take Roy Roy seriously.

It's funny how everyone thinks of Roy now.

This is a article talking about Roy and the possible Lennox show down back in 2003.

""after Jones' near flawless performance against an overmatched John Ruiz, it's probably not a good idea to put anything past Jones. As impressive a career as Lewis has had, he has never displayed the transcendant skills which place Jones in a class with the all-time greats. Jones, in fact, is now receiving comparisons to Michael Jordan and Tiger Woods as athletes who are truly head-and-shoulders above their peers."""

Would have been a hell of a fight if it had happened.

    :thumbsup:thumbsup I agree.

I think Roy vs Lennox would have been a WAR. Roy was as close to super man as it comes. Big Lewis would have been fighting a super speed version of Iron Mike.

Roy would've outpointed the '03 version of Lewis in a close, competitive but boring ass fight.

'03 Lewis legs were shot, and he was slow as **** and no longer had the ability to move and cut off to ring to be able to catch a fighter with Jones footspeed.

Important to note that Lewis has never been in the ring with an opponent that had a clear speed advantage over him. I believe the fastest opponent he's ever faced was that faded version of Holyfield who he went life and death with.

Roy would've cautiously potshotted his way to a close 115-113ish decision win.

Worst decision ever leaving the Heavyweight division. Jones would've benefitted from facing the slower, more plodding opponents up there, and could've had continued success for at least 2-3 additional years.

For the period of time it would have taken Lewis to land his first punch on Roys chin yeah, hell of a fight

The first decent jab Lewis landed would have de-boned RJJ's legs.

Yeah, he wanted no part of a hard-punching heavyweight. For him it was better to fight a hard-hugging heavyweight with a semi-meaningless belt around his waist and hope nobody noticed the difference. He was never the real heavyweight champion. He also considered fighting Corrie Sanders until Sanders signed a contract and gave it back to RJJ to sign.
