    RJJ4Life,

While many of those you listed were decent fighters, they were not WORLD champions. They were merely titleholders.

Jones has fought only four fighter that were at one time or another WORLD champions: Hopkins, Tarver, Tito and Hill

I was talking about the top 10 fighters of all-time combined talent, achievement, and potential. In his prime no one, from any era could beat him at whatever weight he fought at.

And the reason I posted this was because I'm oversaturated with the Hatton-Pacquaio ****! Need a break until fight time tomorrow.... by the way The Hitman is gonna knock Manny out and shock the world! 10round.

    My top 10:

    1) Joe Louis

    2) Sugar Ray Robinson

    3) Muhammad Ali

    4) Henry Armstrong

    5) Sugar Ray Leonard

    6) Rocky Marciano

    7) George Foreman

    8) Julio Cesar Chavez

    9) Roy Jones Jr.

    10) Roberto Duran

Ya'll Musta 4got.. and in 10 years ROy's losses will amount to Ali's losses to Larry Holmes, Leon Spinks, and TREVOR BERBICK... or Joe Louis's late career losses or Sugar Ray Leonard catching a whipping at the end of the line. . In time we will Remember Roy as the best fighter of this generation and one of the best of all time .

    :lol::rofl:patsch

Roy was 35 when he got brutally KOed and had NEVER been in a war like Louis, Leonard, or Ali all who had been in several wars during their career's. You can't even make that comparison Roy was pampered compared to those fighters. Plus, all three of them were past 35 when they lost at the end of their careers. Roy's resume is crap compared to any legit top 30 fighter all time much less top 10. :patsch

He fought Virgil Hill and McCallum when they were older, Mike really old. and he fought Hopkins when he was young. Toney is not ATG and HOF yeah, but he was so inconsistent that who knows about that win. That does not get him top 10 ever. He is not a top 10 atg ever. Leonard beat Duran,Hearns,Benitez,Hagler when they were all champs and great. Why this overrating of Jones? If the man did not earn his place as an ATG why argue it? He had his chances to fight many guys and he didn't, and now his fans are saying he is top 10.. I say top 25 which is great.

That yall musta forgot stuff was always ridiculous. He didn't fight the best and then we all musta forgot how great he is. This is like Mayweather. They do not fight the best prime guys and then they say they are great. You cannot slip into the history books by fooling people.

Uhh most people consider ATG to be those within the top 50. Not the top 10. Secondly, virgil hill and McCallum were slightly past it yes, but Hill continued to have success at cruiserweight winning a couple titles, and McCallum gave Toney a helluva a fight in his last professional fight. Roy was free styling while fighting McCallum lol. Secondly, by young im assuming you mean that Hopkins was raw? Who's to say that Roy wasnt either? It was only his 22 fight. It was Hopkins 23rd. After Roy beat him, one handed no less, he would go on to beat the **** out of everyone he faced, usually ending in brutal KO in one of the longest middleweight reigns in history. He then beat James Toney, who is undoubtedly an ATG and hall of famer. And its not like he was fighting absolute scrubs between these wins. He has guys like Clinton Woods, Montell Griffin, Eric Harding, and Antonio Tarver on his resume aswell. Along with winning a heavyweight title.

So again, its not the best resume, but its clearly ATG worthy, and with the skill he displayed in the ring and abilities, I question anyone who says H2H he is not top 10 best P4P fighter ever. Name one guy who you think beats him from middlweight to lightweight in his prime?

Roy Jones beat 2 ATG's like they were nothing. Name 2 ATG's that Duran beat. Maybe if Jones fought 50 Mexican cab drivers he'd be an ATG to you? And Roy is already in the history books, he was proclaimed the best fighter of the decade of the 90's, and anyone who has eyes could see that was a suitable accolade.

pretty much agree. Roy's resume compared to a lot of legit ATG's is weak.

The sad thing is Roy could have fought several of the people he avoided and he very well could have beat them all or even if he just lost 1 it would not matter.

We will never know because Roy flat out REFUSED to take on all comers.

I dont see how one can rate Jones over say Greb, who was beating evey one from welterweight to heavyweight, and even call out Jack Dempsey.

Or Barney Ross who clean out the lightweights, Welterweights(Before Armstrong) And Jr Welterweights.
OR Fitz who did what Jones Jr did, but he beat the REAL champion. He didnt ko Sharkey and say look at me?? I am heavyweight champion of the world. He knew Corbett was the guy.

Ted Kid Lewis, who fought equal great Jack Brition, who swap the title back and forth in over 20 fights.

Or Micky Walker who was rated number 3 in the heavyweights. After his awsome run in the welterweights and middleweights. No 1 fight, and get out. He was gunning for the real title and end up short.

That's a pretty good, balanced opinion. And I say that as a huge RJJ fan. From 160-168 a prime Jones beats all the greats. Beats most of them at 175 too.

And if he'd retired after the Ruiz fight, a top 10 P4P spot - all time - was guaranteed. Now I'd put him in the top 15, based on accomplishment.

Talent-wise he definitely belongs in the top 5 P4P though. He's up there with Robinson, Ali, Duran, Armstrong, Mayweather, whoever...

My point is that Roy is not top 10 ATG.. and about Duran. I always say that Duran does not have the resume to be top 5 ATG as what people say. He did not beat enough great guys to be that. Even with Leonard, he did not stop a rather inexperienced Ray Leonard, and then in the rematch he quits before he gets stopped. Then Duran loses to Benitez,Hearns and Hagler. So I agree. Duran is not warranted either. But Jones really is not warranted top 10. The thing about Duran is he fought the best. Jones did not fight the best.
