Don't know....haven't looked. Sturm beat Castillejo after he lost to him but didn't have a good showing. He must have been dropped. But Wright (forgot about him) was ahead of him and Abraham was as well. And you can say Miranda beat Abraham if you like, but I don't feel he did. Either way, Miranda was never rated #1. And thats what I said.
Who cares about Pavlik being white? And people diminish other fighters accomplishments all the time on this board so it has nothing to do with him being white, just being on top. I would say there are probably more caucasians and Euros on this boards than blacks, so why would anyone care what his color is (as a whole, we know there are racists here) I saw the Miranda-Abraham fight. Didn't think Miranda beat him. Without the point deductions, sure he beat him. But they are there. And if you don't care about ratings fine, but thats what we were talking about. And Miranda was being called overrated and a slugger by just as many people who were calling him the next big thing. I defended Miranda on that front and picked him to beat Pavlik. Pavlik beat him handily so good for him and I gave him props for it. But Miranda was never the #1 MW behind Taylor. At the very least Wright was there. And while Sturm is protected, he does hold a title. I picked Pavlik to beat Taylor, so I show him no disrespect. But Miranda was never rated #1 at MW, and none of what's being said here has anything to do with the thread.
Yes, both of them early, within 3. That's the difference in class IMO. I don't see how either of those B level guys with crackable jaws last against the MW-SMW Roy Jones Jr, which was one of the greatest fighters that ever laid foot in the ring and had ample power with his speed.
Miranda wouldn't have gone 5 rounds with Jones, Benn, McClellan. Those guys could match his power and were far superior boxers. Miranda throws wide looping punches, can't fight going backwards. Abraham stunned him, Green dropped him. Yes, Jones would have stopped Miranda quickly. And Jermaine Taylor and his left hand that low may have lasted longer due to styles. He would have tried to avoid Jones and was athletic enough to not get caught too early. But he would have gotten stopped. Hopkins hurt him and Jones hit harder than Hopkins at MW. Taylor engaged Pavlik because Pavlik is a pressure fighter and Taylor thought he could get in and get out. But he isn't that good defensively. He wouldn't have tried that with Jones and it would have prolonged the fight.
Ahh....Carlito. Wright has been #1 since the draw with Taylor. I forgot about him because he last fought at LHW. Stop harping on Sturm. For a fact we know Wright AND Abraham were ahead of Miranda. He was never #1. And Sturm to my recollection was ahead of Miranda at one point as well, but I may be wrong. Who cares....Miranda wasn't #1.
KG - IMO, Roy hit harder than Pavlik at 160-168, Pavlik is wrongfully classed as a 1 punch KO guy when he's really a 'heavy handed accumulation' hitter. Taylor wouldn't last 3 with his leaky defence, Roy had the greatest timing I've ever seen in a boxer and he would be landing his best power rights at will and would blow him out of there.
No idea at all how they got that way. Taylor should be #1. Wright lost at LHW, so maybe thats their thinking?
Well I said Pavlik didn't happen 1 punch power and his accumilation is what stops you. Jones had one punch power. I think Taylor would run from Jones and was athletic enough to last 5-6 rounds.
He doesn't have 1 punch power? Are you people ****in crazy? So, you're telling me that Pavlik is more of a TKO type of fighter where the ref has to step in and stop him? He puts people to SLEEP. He knocks some guys while they are still standing up. You think you can just land your hardest shot all night? Be realistic. It takes a while before he can land that shot, but when he does his opponent GOES TO SLEEP. People saying Pavlik doesn't have one punch KO power don't know what the **** they're talking about.
For one belt. We are talking in the whole division right? Not just one ABC org. If not, then there are 3-4 #1 ranked fighters right now.
