Roy Jones Jr. vs. Bernard Hopkins II

I don't think Hopkins fancies this 1, he's even turned down an offer of 'winner takes 60%' in the last couple of years. To beat Jones you have to outwork him and Hopkins workrate isnt that high. Jones is still 1 of the few that is quick and talented enough to land on Hopkins first.

Hopkins could possibly turn the heat up on Jones a little, hard to say. Interesting 1

 

Stylistically its a good fight for Jones at this point in his career. Better than another fight with Tarver. Calzahge beat Hopkins with speed and movement. I think Jones can do the same, plus Hopkins was never the biggest punching threat. I think Jones should make the fight, it might erase some of the damage done by Tarver, and I believe he can win a 12 round decision.

 

I would love to see how they both handle the wisdom they have gained in the ring...a chess match...with a bit more insight of the others flaws that have been exposed...will Jones out talent him? Will Bernard play the aggresor....this is a fight I would like to see with the winner facing Johnson/Dawson winner

 

We have Jones-Green and Hopkins-Adamek next though, both should come through and both are at cruser

 

Wrong. Since when is Hopkins fighting Adamek next ? He recently stated that he wants to fight the winner of Dawson-Johnson.

 

Think they agreed it for January, think there was some press release and this came after the talk of fighting the Dawson-Johnson winner

 

I'd bet the farm if they fought today Hops would show himself too fundamentally refined and too intelligent to lose to Roy. Jones is the kind of cat that evokes passion and awe. Those that are buying into his carefully crafted, yet hollow victories as of late are missing the point. He's thriving on opposition that cannot win against him even at this late stage...guys tand styles that suit what Jones has left.

I know what will happen with Roy if he is roughed-up or dragged into a chess-match with somebody at or above his level. A cat that believes in himself with some sound fundamentals and a desire to win WILL beat him...and you better believe that Roy's camp knows this.

 

Which is why Jones has tried to make the fight and Hopkins has tried to avoid the fight

 

Perhaps I was simply too subtle for you, re your need to again ask for my point.

Hopkins DOES have the style to beat Roy...and he would beat Roy today. In fact, MANY would beat Roy today...which is why as a retread he's facing guys that are either levels beneath him, perceived as shot or coming off of years of inactivity. In short, he is propped-up.

Roy likes to play as though he is in the driver's seat. He did it when Hops chased him seven years ago, using money to talk his way out of that and he'll do it today. Fundamentally, there is NO WAY Roy has ANYTHING over Hopkins. Take away his athleticism even just a notch and he looks to be cut in half.

Add to that he is borderline senile today......

 

Roy's done allot more to make that fight than Hopkins, even offered him winner takes 60% as of 2years ago. Hopkins has walked away from this fight multiple time over the years not Roy

 

I think it could be a bad fight for Hopkins stylistically, workrate being the issue. I think this fight could be a big, boring disappointment.

 

unless youre picking hopkins to go straight after him and get the ko not sure how its such an obvious hopkins fight

despite the fact hopkins is better than jones now and hopkins could win against guys that would ko roy

but against eachother its different, i dont think either will really attack so its about getting a quick punch in and getting out, even now jones is still great at it

id probably expect jones to get an early lead and then hopkins to pull it back as the fight progresses

close decision either way

 

Hopkins has crude defense?
