It's a great match.both are in my top 5 of all time light heavies. When Jones was in his prime I don't think I've ever seen anybody as fast at that weight but and it's a big but, foster has a big reach advantage and his power is a killer. I'll go with foster by ko in 10.
Foster KO3 Any Punch who Foster lands would hurt Roy and the first Bomb Knocks him out cold. Foster was and is the hardest punching LHW ever.
RJJ decision, maybe a KO if he steps it up as he could at times as the 1996/97 version would do more so. Way too quick and elusive for Foster and hit hard enough to KO him It's arguably better than Fosters He beat nearly all the ring ranked opposition bar Darius and Rochiagani, both who were offered fight contracts. There was also a past prime Nunn who he missed out on. Just look at the Ring Rankings for years where he was champ and you'll see he faced most of them. He beat Hill the ex lineal champ who was champ a champion for 10 years with a single bodyshot in the 4th round, he beat Tarver while looking a shadow of his former self, he beat an old McCallum by shut out - McCallum was coming off a loss but it's a close call he made Tiozzo miss all night long, he shut out, he avenged his only loss to Griffin an unlucky DQ with a first round KO win - Griffin had 2 wins over Toney, he beat the best contender of the era in Harding who won the eliminator against Tarver and beat Griffin, he dominated Gonzalez who'd win the lineal title from Darius, Hall who was beating Darius up in their first fight, Johnson who was a current MW champ. Not to mention all the 168 opposition that would be LHWs in Foster's day. As for Foster jabbing Roy all night, Roy's probably the best slipper of the jab or all time.
This is true at light heavy. But Roy still falls into the Jack Dempsey mold of a guy who ducked his biggest challenge.
That's a shame. You know when they're in their late 70's it's just a matter of time, but it's still sad everything someone dies.
RIP One of the better wins I shamefully neglected I don't consider Darius the biggest challenge. You could argue Darius was the one doing the ducking too, the fight was offered to Darius a few times. He wasn't overly keen until he realised he needed to cash out fast and by that time Jones had gone to fight at HW and Darius then lost.
Doug Jones pushed Clay to the wire two fights before he beat Liston, yet a novice Roy would beat him whilst spotting him 20lbs? Can't see it myself.
