I actually missed a bunch... The Jones & Toney Connection: Since the late 80's they have fought: Ron Amundsen (Jones KO7; Toney UD10) Merqui Sosa (Jones TKO2; Toney SD12) Reggie Johnson (Toney SD12; Jones UD12) Mike McCallum (Toney x3: D12, MD12, UD12; Jones UD12) Glenn Wolfe (Toney UD12; Jones TKO1) Ricky Stackhouse (Toney TKO3; Jones KO1) Glenn Thomas (Toney UD10; Jones TKO8) Danny Garcia (Toney RTD6; Jones KO6) Tony Thornton (Toney UD12; Jones TKO3) Each other (Jones UD12) Montell Griffin (Toney x2: LMD12, LUD12; Jones x2: LDQ9, KO1) John Ruiz (Toney UD12 changed to ND; Jones UD12) Denis Lebedev (Toney LUD12; Jones LKO10) ...and soon a fourteenth piece will be added into the head-to-head puzzle with Bobby Gunn (Toney RTD5; Jones ???) 1) They really should just stop puss-footing around it and have a rematch already. They are clearly playing copycat and "can you top me now?" with their opponent selection over the years - and hell, if stuff like Hopkins vs. Jones II and Maske vs. Hill II can take place so late in the game, why not? 2) Jones has typically done much, much, much better against common opponents. :think Gunn did wobble Toney pretty badly at one point. If Jones can avoid that embarrassment and/or dismiss him faster, then it will just be a cherry on top a career that is downright superior even if you take away having bested Toney when they actually did meet.
Roy wants to keep fighting. So if that's the case, I really don't think that its that bad of a fight tbh. He's doing what he likes to do and getting paid for it against a reasonable (at this stage) opponent.
Jones should try and make a Holyfield fight it would generate more money than a fight like this. Both are old and past it. Gunn makes no sense. Toney is too far gone at this point.
