JRR. He’s from another planet. (I dunno about primes — you could argue Roy being at his best at 168 — but Im calling this at 175. At heavyweight I might shift to Ezz as he’s more comfortable there but I’d have to think about it.)
At 175 Charles sheer brilliance, timing, skill would allow him to catch Jones unlike most others. Now i am not in the camp the guy had a glass jaw in his prime but i think Charles would be a good chance to stop him at 175. Charles would have to chase him but i don't think Jones simply outslicks him like he did most everyone else. Jones i think would win the early moments then Charles would adjust and start looking to time him. At some point he would hurt him badly and finish him imo. Charles would have to be somewhat careful because Jones himself has ATG speed and plenty of wallop at the weight.
I don't rank jones that high at lhw but Charles was not particularly big nor a power puncher stylistically this is a match that jones could win, he was faster and had better reflexes. However guys like michael moorer, bob foster or spinks would put jones to sleep.( yes michael moorer)
No he was not. huge punchers were bob foster, archie moore, michael moorer etc ezzard charles could bang but he was not a huge puncher. YOU are wrong
I really go back and forth on this. Incidentally, you can use prime 168lbs Roy for this. He was coming to the ring at a bit more than that - meanwhile Charles is an inch taller with a slightly shorter reach. Probably Charles is a tiny bit bigger but not so it matters.
You’re wrong. Charles was a huge puncher at 175 At 175 he knocked out Archie Moore Jimmy Bivins Lloyd Marshall Sam Baroudi Oakland Billy Smith Anton Christoforidas Anton was a champion had never been stopped before in 60 plus pro fights Bivins was a hall of famer who had never been down for the 10 count before. “Bivins was making his way back into the fight when a left hook right cross combination put him on his back. Doctors had to revive Bivins.”- Toledo Blade March 11, 1947 Moore was in his prime, a top 3 light heavyweight of all time “Charles was reeling by a Moore right hand and ready to go. Then Charles turned over a left hook then a whopping roundhouse right that cracked against Moore’s skull with so much force that some in press row winced at the noise it created”- a boxing life William Detloff He killed Sam Baroudi Charles was called the Cincinnati Cobra for a reason. He proved it in the ring. Had vicious knockouts at 175 against durable men and the highest quality of fighters
One thing is stopping guys for acumulation of blows and based on your accuracy skill etc another thing is being a HUGE PUNCHER STOP DEBATING IT. CHARLES WAS NOT A HUGE PUNCHER AND EVERYBODY KNOWS IT
