Read my post in first page Charles knocked out very durable men and prime hall of famers at 175 from 1946-1948
Rjj did not handle Mc Callum too well, another old school crafty fighter. Mc Callum was past prime then.
Me too, JRR, RJJ, no-matter how u spell it -LOL! his prime was a freak of nature lasting up till Ruiz IMO. The RJJ post Ruiz at least wouldn't get hospitalized, because Ezz would do him in with a single shot.
Charles by KO Roy was untouchable in his prime because he was so difficult to catch but against most of the ATG's at LHW he would be in with guys who would have the timing, skill and speed to catch him and not be scared of getting countered because they all had good chins.
I feel like i'm casting pearls to swine here Boxeo. I made it all very simple to understand and you apparently got none of it. One doesn't have to hit as hard as Bob Foster to be a great puncher. Bob might even be the greatest puncher of all but the thing is he had an easy division and failed when fighting bigger men. That's not a knock on Bob i think his power is terrifying. Dick Tiger was an amazing KO even if Dick was moving up i'll grant that and the way he left guys devastated tells us for sure he was immense. If push comes to shove tho Charles had ko's over better men. This is not up for debate. Does that make Charles as hard a puncher as Bob? No but he was certainly a big puncher. One top poster used to claim he may have even been on Spinks level and tho i debated against it the guy is woefully underrated power wise. Ezzard Charles at his 175 greatest is not too far below SRR imo. As stated elsewhere in the thread if we had a lot more of him on film people would be singing a different tune.
This is great matchup. It may be a series of fights. I would have to lean toward Charles. He was the best 175lber in history. A complete fighter. I can't dismiss Roy Jones though. He was quick and he was slippery. He would have to work very hard to do it but I think Charles would eventually time Jones. It would be a fascinating fight to watch. High level stuff.
Well the left hook that flattened Bob Satterfield, admittedly at heavyweight was as devastating as any Lt-heavy / heavy could have thrown.
Griffin, Mc Callum and Tarver showed what to do against RJJ, you gotta keep him with his back to the ropes where he is not too effective. Charles would be able to do that
Jones knocks Charles out (who was knocked down or out lots of times). Charles looks more impressive on paper than on film.
