Roy Jones Jr vs Ezzard Charles

He didn't blast him out but he won almost every round and knocked him down. I guess that passed as some sort of victory for opponents during this period of Jones' career.

 

Tough call. Too tough for me to say.....

 

I've always suspected ROY of carrying McCallum. I think it was out of respect.

 

I remember it. Griffin gave Jones some trouble. He had a few tricks in his bag courtesy of Eddie Futch. It's been awhile seen I've seen it. I don't recall Griffin having Jones on the ropes for any extended period.

Not at all, it was a very close, competitive fight until the stoppage. Griffin was not the usual opponent.

 

I think RJJ jad trouble with Mc Callum defense and ring generalship. Eventually, RJJ's age and punch out put became a decisive factor as the fight went into the late rounds.

I agree - I can't call this with any confidence. Charles never met anyone like Jones but he met tougher opposition. I think in a one off fight, Jones's speed and unorthodox offense might be enough to outpoint Charles but if Charles could figure him out then Charles could probably finish him. Best of 3: Charles 2-1; one off: Jones.

 

The Jones-McCallum fight was neither close nor a stoppage.
