Jones fought differently from Patterson tho, let's face it he rarely got hit up to meeting Tarver.

Floyd's knockout of conditioning fanatic Brian London may be the fastest body shot combination in HW history, at least on film. He also one punched Devil Green with a single hook to the body in round ten. Obviously, Patterson needs only one to Roy's chin.

People seem to forget about Patterson's technical schooling. With his style and physical attributes, I can see him jabbing consistently at Jones' chest and pushing his back towards the ropes, where Roy was much less effective, then unloading. This would be especially apparent imo due to Jones' own lack of consistent hard jabbing - Patterson here has many opportunities to slip the jab and double jab himself without much worry. Roy's tendency to lie on the ropes with a barely functional high guard is not appropriate against Patterson. If Griffin could give Jones stylistic and technical issues then Patterson certainly would imo.

Jones was great at setting traps and playing with rhythms to land big shots, but I don't see it being enough against Patterson's proven heart and recovery (shown against bigger punchers than Roy).
I see Jones doing very well early, timing good uppercuts and right hands before he eventually gets pushed back and brutally ktfo by a Patterson cluster bomb in an exchange by the ropes.

One more time, people on this forum constantly dismiss, disrespect and denigrate Patterson and his skills.

Totally agreed. For my money Patterson is one of the most underrated H2H fighters, whilst Roid is one of the most overrated.

I didn’t say in this thread, I said on this forum. There are people on this forum that would pick Lionel Rose to beat Patterson.

Even if you set 175 as the limit, Floyd Patterson would be by far the most devastating puncher Roy Jones Jr. has ever faced, and this gunslinger also adds unreal hand speed.

Unless it's some green version of Floyd that campaigned below 175, I can't see anything else but a brutal stoppage for Patterson.

It's probably because of Patterson's size, but I think he had enough size and skill to match up against some of the alphabet guys like a John Ruiz or a Trevor Berbick or a Tony Tubbs or even a Tim Witherspoon. We could argue about who would win, but he would be competitive. It's the ATG modern sized heavies that he would likely lose against.

Maybe that's some of it, but as I've observed before, much of it IMO is residual historical resentment of how he was "protected by Cus D'Amato," the sheer starkness of the two debacles against Liston, the fact that he couldn't hang with Ali (few could), the fact that he was on the canvas so much (which I think on the whole was more an issue of balance because of his style than a glass jaw) and the fact that his whole humble mode (although he could be a badass when required, he regretted it later but he wanted to kill Johansson second time out) doesn't fit the standard mode for boxers.
