I understand it's a bit unfair maybe to make a call here with McClellan having such a short stint and his tragic fight in England. Let's look at It at 160. Both reigns were brief but spectacular. Jones looked out of this world on his rise up to his fight with Hopkins. I especially remember his bout with Glenn Wolfe who had gone the distance with James Toney. Jones KO1. He beats Hopkins 8-4. Not alot of action, very cautious. He may of had a problem with his right hand though I can't verify that. Then ended up destroying Thomas Tate a good boxer who gave Julian a rough nite. Gerald a knockout machine. Huge at 160. Could also box well. Destroys Jackson in 5 rounds and then stretches him in 1 in the rematch. He goes to on to beat Jay Bell and Gilbert Babtist early knockouts. Some friction with Manny. Anyway let's say Roy doesn't move up to 68 and they are matched. How's its look?
That was a fight I was really looking forward to. It's tragic what happened to Gerald against Nigel Benn, but I think his fight with Jones, win or lose, would have turned out differently. Gerald was a big, strong middleweight. Like a Lt. Heavy fighting at middleweight. I thought his height, reach, and most importantly, his big punch would have given him a serious shot at Roy. Back in the 90s, he was the only guy I thought that could have beaten Roy Jones. I think Gerald's power and size would have made Roy a little more respectful and because of what Tarver did later on, I wonder if Gerald might have pulled off the same kind of win, by KO. Bernard fought Roy close, and he had similar physical attributes, just wasn't aggressive enough. I think Gerald would have let his hands go more and taken risks. Would have been exciting.
The same applies to Jones. It really wasn't. Bernard threw a lot more but did not land much. Jones punched less but landed better.

I would think Jones would be favored to win a cautious decision, but McClellan was good and had real power so you can't count him out. Wasnt McClellan with King? Would King even OK this fight? A real shame it wasn't meant to be.
i think jones would take it, fairly easily at that, but it would be interesting to see what mclellan could do if he got jones against the ropes. which would be inevitable as in every jones fight that goes past 30 seconds
I think Jones would be extra cagey in this one. He’d feint the **** out of McClellan and keep him on the move for the 12 rounds. A prime Roy could do that without much problem so I see this as being a frustrating night for McClellan.
