If Greb is indeed a match for Roy in the speed department, and there are some anecdotal indications that he was, then he takes this one. RJJ was also a freak, but he never had a fraction of the competitive experience Harry had accrued by 1919. Schedule this one for 20 rounds, and my money's on Pittsburgh over Pensacola.
Interesting one. Their respective resumes suggest that we should incline to favour Greb, but there are some interesting stylistic factors at play.... Greb relied heavily on his speed and Jones might have been faster. Greb was not a knockout artist, which might nulify Jonses gretest weakness. These factors might make it rather interesting.
If Greb had power he would have won by K.O pretty early. He didn't, so i think i would take Jones by a competative decision.
probably not, Jones could be the fastest fighter we have on film, people make it sound like Greb was Bruce Lee fast though, 8 punches in under a second and all that.
this matchup is a complete nightmare for greb. we know he's a swarmer and he'd be the smaller man. vs a post-heavyweight jones, i'll take greb but prime vs prime jones is just way too much. that said, greb deserves to be higher on the all-time lb for lb list.
It's going to be tough for Roy to win a decision with Greb's workrate, so I think he'd need a knockout if he's going to win it. From what I've read, Greb comes off like Joe Calzaghe on steroids- that's not an easy style to beat, even if you can land the better highlight reel shots. Really tough call though- I wouldn't really argue with anyone who favors what they can see and judge and goes with Jones.
