ThatSeems you have no grasp of modern or old school pugilism. I'd suggest suicide, or the general forum.
Burt, how can you possibly think it is disrespectful to match the best guys at 185 from differing eras? I can't believe i'm gonna say this but grow up and stop spitting your dummy out. When at their highest regard these two were very close in weight and both considered nearly unbeatable whilst both failing to fight their main divisional contender. In your distorted mind you no doubt see this thread as a dig at jack.
Dempsey hardly busted up the weaker Gibbons guard did he How about we ask how Dempsey leading left hook is going to get there before Jones leading left hook? Or when he throws it how Jones wouldn't slip it and counter it with a massive right? Something along the lines of 1. RJJ 2. Holyfield 3. Marciano 4. Charles 5. Patterson Hon mentions Tunney/Moore/Dempsey/Haye/Johnson I do question how Jack Johnson and Dempsey would adapt to boxers in a more talent filled era
what are some examples of dempsey chasing down a speedy fighter for the KO? what are some examples of roy playing matador with a fighter whose speed and aggression approach dempsey? the difficulty is, with have footage of dempsey beating up farmers (willard) and overrated thugs (firpo) but nothing with him taking out an opponent like jones. even the reports of his more impressive, non filmed wins like fulton are over opponents who were too slow and unskilled to outbox dempsey. the footage we have of jones is him playing with opponents that are nowhere nears his, or dempseys, skill level. with the exception of toney, hopkins and an old mccallum. those fighters lacked dempsey's size and style so comparisons would be thin at best. i don't buy that jones has a paper chin anymore than i do that dempsey was a boxcar hobo with no skill. i've picked dempsey from the beginning based off his aggression and ability to cut off the ring, couple with jones' lack of proven ability above 175. on the right night though, i could definitely see a jones win.
RJJ has never KO'd a man above 180lbs and never beaten any real quality opponent above 180, so I don't know how people are saying he's their number 1 H2H under 200, when he's never really proven himself against high tier fighters at the weight. I think if Jones has what it takes to survive the early onslaught he'd be in with a real good chance and probs win by UD, otherwise Dempsey KO.
