was looking at photos today of how much toney has changed and came across an article about toney afetr the fight he went up to something like 217 pounds before the fight was signed and losty like 40pounds in 6 weeks of training said he was on a drip from after the weigh in till like 3 hours before the fight he gained 19 pounds in under 20 hours shows how dehydrated he was not taking nothing away from jones, he my favourite fighter but that wasnt toney in their that night would have been a hell of a fight at like 178 or 180
Of course it ain't Jones fault that Toney couldn't keep his weight down. Toney being weightdrained shouldn't be an excuse. But it's still a fact that he was severely weightdrained, simple as that. Acknowledge it. Toney fought at LHW, where he was more at ease, and he defended his belt at SMW. He would have moved up to LHW for good earlier if it hadn't been for the mega-fight with Roy Jones. Toney should never have taken that fight in the first place. Same with Roy, he didn't move up to SMW to face Toney, no, he fought regularly at SMW before that and just defended his IBF MW belt at MW. Roy had difficulties making the 168lbs limit for the clash with Toney himself.
Toney was weight drained for many of his fights at 160 and 168... those were never the proper weights for him. So this excuse of being weight drained is not a very good one. Toney knows what he was doing, he had been doing it all the time even when he was knocking people out. Only difference is RJJ was no ordinary fighter... he brought dimensions that Toney could not figure out.
Had he nought fought in July of that year prior to Jones at 168 I may have given him a pass .But against Jones he doesn't because Toney knew how big of a fight and like u siad if it wasn't for Jones he may have not taken the fight ..But he was the champ as ready to defend his belt ..Jones just had to much speed for him ..
