Let's turn the clock back 9 years from now in 03 when Toney stopped a past prime Holyfield in immaculate fashion. Instead of going back down to light heavyweight Jones give an in shape Toney around 215 pounds a rematch in his first of his WBA Heavyweight title. Who you got?

good question. but a still fresh, not drained heavy version of roy wins a boring decision over toney. he tastes a bit of what toney has to offer in the first four, adjusts and throws solely right hands from the distance

Same result all over again,Roy is a stylistic nightmare for Toney. Too much quickness of hand and feet, James would always find himself a couple of steps behind Roy and would struggle to find the perfect distance to land his right hand. Jones by wide UD in another one sided fight just like the first one.

I'm surprised no one even gives Toney a chance. He looked fantastic against Holyfield and Jones was nowhere near the level he was at in the first fight. My thinking is if Toney has the power to drop and near enough stop an iron chinned fighter in Holyfield and outweighs Roy by about 30 pounds, then he has a real shot at stopping jones at any point in the fight. Stylistically it does favour Jones but the Toney he beat at super middleweight was a whole different fighter to this one. I like Toney by late KO. I think Jones gets over eager and drawn in to a big counter punch causing the ref to wave it off. Also I think
Freddie Roach could at least make a slight difference in the way that Toney cadets his guard making it slightly higher than it already was.

Jones is not going to stand right in front of him waiting for receipts like Evander did. Jones would force Toney to move his feet to land on a moving target. 3 minutes a round, move those feet. James Toney moves his feet for 3 minutes a fight. Toney's skills are from the waist up and Roy is going to force the guy to become the hunter and those Toney legs are 2 steps behind this opponent before he gets those tired wheels. Then, the gap widens.

What this also does is to make the flashy fighter look in command from the outside. And judges just love the flashy fighters on scorecards so how does Toney land enough to win rounds?

well Toney wasn't lazy and weight drained in 2003. that counts for something, win or lose. looked sharper than ever to be honest, even if Holyfield was shot. Plus he's always wanted a rematch, and you could bet he'd show up in top shape. i'll vote draw just because.

but Holyfield was standing in front of Toney

    Roy wouldn't do that

Yer Zadfrak's post has definitely swayed me to a Jones Jr decision, but a I still think Toney has a shot to stop RJJ

No way a fat Toney gets to Roy.

James of the Jirov fight would have had a respectable shot of getting to Jones.

Toney, while sharp at heavyweight, was rather slow, and Roy was still greased lightning against Ruiz, moving very, very well.

James can't be favored to beat Roy when Roy still has his legs.
