Modern Rules, 15 rounds, 8 Oz Gloves. Can Jones pick up a win by out-boxing the shoes of Jeffries? Am I crazy for seeing the plausibility, and likely hood of this?
Over 15 it's a tough call, but I still pick Jones. I'd say Roy puts on a near clinic over 12. Speed kills.
Any time Jones' jaw is impacted by a fist from a 220 lb heavyweight champ...I go with the results of the San Francisco earthquake.
Very tough. Jones at heavyweight was extremely cautious, very low punch output, therefore I simply can't imagine how he would match up hypothetically with ATGs from other eras. I can see Jones out maneuvering and out boxing Jeffries but that right hand of Jim's was a monster and if one were to connect, its all over. Having said that, I still think Jones posesses the skills and movement to keep Jeffries frustrated the entire night. That one punch can always end the night though, so it really is tough. To put it bluntly, IMO If they fought 10 times, I see Jones winning 7 out of 10. Perhaps I'm just ranting.
Jeffries would win under any rule set. The fact that this is even being discussed shows how badly under-rated Jeffries is on this forum.
I'm still learning about Jeffries. One thing is for certain Roy won't be getting his respect with punches and will have to put on a clinic. I can imagine Jeffries crouch making it hard for Jones to judge when to let his hands go. Jeffries by stoppage, at some point
Jeffries stepping out of a time-machine and into this fight has a puncher's chance only, though a good one. I'd favour Jones slightly. Under his own rules, Jeffries would win in a round. An imagined modern version of Jeffries would also beat Jones early.
I think Jeffries speed is overated on this forum. Let me ask you something, do you think Corbett is significantly better than Jones under Roy's own rulset, prime for prime?
I think Tunney would have an excellent chance. I'd favour him over 10. I also think Conn could beat Jeffries over a shorter distance, and I might just make him a favourite over 15.
