Nah, see, this is the mistake folks have been making with joe for 15 years. It's not like that. Eveyone who has been in with him is clear - his movement is extremely unpredictable. This is because he has unorthodox stance and footwork but world class balance.Anything less and he wouldn't be able to pull it off. This makes timing him a bit like timin a rattlesnake. Maybe Jones has something extra that will allow him to decode Calzaghe - and I think Hopkins was on the right road before he ran out of puff - but I don't beleive this will be the case. Hopkins running out of puff is the second reason this is such a tough fight for JOnes. Calzaghe has a big advantage in stamina, but he is also the better general in my view - look at the way he kept Hopkins on the move with footwork and ringcraft. Fighting Joe is very tiring and Jones is old. Does he have that sharpness and crispness any more though? When I look at Jones I see a fighter who has actually improved technically in his twilight years but the snap doesn't appear to be in his punches any more. I won't say your view is ridiclous, I will offer you some friendly advice - keep your money in your pocket on this one padre.
Joe can't moan at getting stick for this. Joe himself has proclaimed that Jones is more then washed up and that he wouldn't entertain fighting him.
Yep and if Hopkins can drop the bum, then you can bet your bottom dollar Jones can. Amazing the amount of people that seem to think Calzaghe will KO Jones in this fight, considering their respective records in the power department. Jones will hopefully turn back time and land a couple of bombs to drop this ***** for the count :yep
glad someone made this point early in the thread. I'll be rooting for Roy but i feel Calzaghe will win by decision, maybe wide i.e 117-111.
I think you just answered your own question there. Calslappy doesn't do 'threats', he thinks Jones is going to be an easy fight. He knows back in the day he'd have gotten annihilated (same with Hopkins) and he's going for the guy now he's old. An old Jones might well be the perfect guy to expose the over-rated slapper though :deal
Jones is even slurring his words nowadays. That doesn't sound like a man with lightning reflexes and punches to me.
It seems to be a good move for both of them ...Joe gets another recognition in the USA, fighting a legend,,,and RJJ, regardless of the results, shows he's fighting another top guy......good move by both of them
I see your arguement about Jones' stamina because he lays on the ropes a lot. My opinion is that he was toying with these opponents such as Prince, Hanshaw and Tito. He did not choose to finish these opponents despite knocking down Hanshaw and Tito. Jones was laying on the ropes the whole time in these fights and showboating. We still don't the best of what The Comeback Jones has to offer yet. He does have that same crispness and sharpness, go watch the Hanshaw fight it's in the 11th round or so. I'am not a gambling man.
I was wondering about this one. If Joe loses to RJJ, then what does it say about Joe? Or does that mean RJJ was just under rated? I doubt that one.
