Roy was a bit more egotistical back then and he probably figured he would get robbed no matter how good he would do, and that Michalczewski should come to the States, because he (roy) is the baddest mofo in boxing (as he would say), so things had to happen on HIS terms (the only time he didn't move on his terms was when he made the dumb move to lose all that muscle mass in a short period of time to fight Tarver). You have to remember Roy's mindset then. He is way more humble now in his advanced age, he's been to the bottom and wants to get back.
Money makes the world go round, and the turkish mafia has a lot of it. It's all about laundering crime money. That said, Öner is doing a good job as a promoter.
Actually considering this shows that jones is indeed having financial problems. The article actually says that jones is considering making the fight in germany, and i beleive that is where this spectacle would generate the most dollars. I never dreamt in a million that jones would ever stoop this low. BEYER?! WTF!?
Ok so Kessler fights Calzaghe in his backyard but he's a ***** for not fighting Miranda? I don't get that. What has Miranda done at SMW anyway so far? Not much. Let him earn a fight with Kessler first, calling out and insulting Kessler isn't enough to deserve this fight. But you're right about Taylor as an opponent for RJJ, he's a credible opponent.
Totally agree:good The thing is i think Roy Jones jnr is the greatest talent of the last 20 years, and although he won titles at MW, SMW, LHW AND HW, he never actually beat a long term rival in Michalczweski because i think it would have boosted his credentials, instead he lost to Tarver! I agree that his mindset has changed. yet i only pray that he would have made a more bold move back when it mattered. For the record i think Michalzewski would have made him work but probably would have been stopped late, due to his aggresive style. If only Jones had taken the risks........
when is roy going to fight a meaningful fight? i mean ya beyer isnt a bad fighter but lets be honest here. hes not a threat to anyone these days
No way mate, Roy is more egotistical than he has ever been, he believes he should make millions regardless of who he fights because he is roy jones. He has no desire to get to the top of anything, he wants to make money and that's it. Back when he was a super-middle in his interviews he was always confident, never arrogant. As he faded as a light heavy his confidence dissapeared to be replaced with arrogance and the arrogance has gone into overdrive since his losses.
Michalczweski-Jones would sell better if fought in Germany, than in US. More people knew Jones in Germany than, Daruisz in US. Dariusz sold out stadiums, Jones for all his greatness never put bums on seats like Dariusz could in Germany, look at all the ring magazine, boxing monthly articles of the fight enough said. Boxing is alot bigger than the US:good
Teampalle is currently is talks with HBO and Miranda's manegement - the "Kessler doesn't dare fight me" crap is just a way of pushing for the fight. Teampalle and Kessler has both said that they are ready for Miranda once the money is right - which they are working on atm. Don't worry unless Kessler can get a better opponent for his US-debut Miranda will soon be shut up... (for awhile atleast - he has a tendency to get loadmouth pretty fast after his defeats)
Okay guys. Roy Jones was at ringside tonight to watch Markus Beyer's UD8 in his return bout to the ring. He said: "Markus Beyer is a wonderful fighter...hopefully I can come here and do a little business with him." Neither Sauerland (Beyer's previous team) nor Universum (promoter of the great Dariusz Michalczewksi) have ever came close to bring Jones to ringside for a possible big fight in Germany. Ahmet Öner did just that. I'm pretty sure that Jones' going after the easy money an JONES vs. BEYER IS ON!
RJJ let it go on Michalczewski tellin the moderator that HE was the p4p best fighter in the world and for sure no so-called "Tiger" - HE was the one who laid down the rules, so Dariusz should had come to the US but he refused...
