I think Marvin. I could Roy hitting him, but Marvin putting on the pressure and stopping him in about 8 or 9 rounds.
How many rounds? I think Hagler gets him late, but he can't afford to offer Jones too much respect. I would not rule out a Jones decision. Sorry Hagler fans, Marvin had issues with speedy fighters such as Leoanrd and Monroe. Jones' chin became an issue at 175 pound, not a 160 pounds. But did anyone really land something serious on him at 160 pounds?
How much do you really know about the first Hagler/Monroe bout? And, in any event, how do the two examples you have given - fights that occurred with over ten years between them - provide a view of a prime Hagler?
Well Mugabi who was a puncher was actually out boxing Hagler for a while. I'm picking Hagler but I see a path for Jones on points
Its on you tube. Was Hagler injured or not ready for the fight? Not sure, asking you. Monore was too quick for Hagler. My point is Hagler had some issues with speedy fighters, and Monroe was one of them. Leonard another. A fair point, I think Roy Jones jr had incredible hand speed and power. Hagler could not afford to hang back or start slow, which I think he did too often. If a boxing match broke out, Jones is winning it. I am picking Hagler. I'm just saying Jones is a brilliant boxer with speed, good enough to make matches with Hopkins and Toney easy nights! Hagler's defense isn't as good as theirs. Yes he hit harder, but the fire with Hagler in my opinion wasn't as good as it should have been.
I'll be amazed if Hagler/Monroe (I) is on youtube. TV Crews never made it there. According to reports, Monroe came out against the grain of his usual counter-punching style and went for Hagler right from the start. He smashed Hagler's nose in the second and continued to drill him with a hard jab and combinations. Hagler fought through a mask of blood until the end of this 10-rounder, but acknowledged he'd been well beaten. I don't think a prime Hagler sits back from fighters, who themselves are sitting back. He goes a looking and I think he'd go looking and find Roy Jones Jr.
Hagler had slowed down by the Mugabi fight and no way would Jones throw the amount of shots Mugabi threw in that fight vs Hagler. Marvin still showed offensive skills in that fight that would expose Roy`s flawed defense, Hagler had better offensive skills than any fighter Jones ever fought and he would have a reach advantage.
Hagler`s defense was far better than Hopkins defense vs Jones, he fought differently years later in his career, Toney wasn`t that elusive vs Jones, I feel he looked much sharper vs McCallum and actually fought better against Mike than Jones did against a 39 year old McCallum with a much softer heavier body.
