Nobody here brought up the judges of the Duran-Hagler fight but you. And no one cares about them. It's about the fact that on one hand you have Marvin Hagler, the indestructible, powerful, natural middleweight, and on the other hand you have Duran who was past his best, losing to the likes of Laing, Benetiz and Sims. Of course you expect Hagler to blow him out, but instead it was a careful victory that was decided only when the rounds went to double digits. And that is of course not to mention what Hearns did to Duran just months later.

How good was Hagler's strategy in the Duran fight? Do you feel there was more potential than what he delivered? Because i sure did. You say "he won, so it was a good strategy". Well, i think the victory was more despite the chosen strategy than because of it.

Like you say: nothing complicated here. Which is why it went well for Hagler, strategy-wise. Jones is a different puzzle to solve.

I'm glad you admit that much. :good

I think the simple point here is that it's possible Jones could build up a good lead. Leonard - Hagler was reasonably close and Hagler was getting shots thru at various times. This may not be the case against Jones, he is far harder to hit than Leonard at 160. If Hagler clearly slips behind on points and the fight is in it's latter stages he is just going to concede defeat and not up the ante in the hope of getting to Jones?

I think Roy lights him up, to be honest.

Man was a physical specimen- He'd be larger and more powerful than Hagler, while still retaining a significant speed of hand and foot advantage.

This is just a bad, bad fight for Marvin, and most any middleweight in history.

Have to agree with the Jones picks. A freak at 160, and also when he was briefly at 154. Great as he was, I'm not sure Hagler could pull it off.

Mag and JT are messin' with the middleweight hierarchy here. If Roy is capable of lighting Marvin up...how does Roy fare against the other ATG elites Monzon, Robinson, Reigning champ Hopkins? I'm not making light of Roy's talents or ability...Read my posts I pick him more times than not. I think I remember that JT doesn't think that highly of Marvin (correct me if I'm wrong) but Hagler is generally considered an ATG middleweight champ. While I wouldn't say Hagler beats Monzon or Robinson, the gap between them is not a wide chasm, if Roy were to light up Marvin, that means he lights up Monzon and Robinson...Ain't buyin' it guys. IF Roy beats him...it's closer than you guys think.

Oh no doubt. No doubt. It won't be easy for either man.

But sometimes challenging the hierarchy is a good thing. And in this case, I think it's a perfectly valid.

Fair enough...I can plainly see that young Roy at 160 is truly special and a power punching stylistic nightmare...I just don't think anyone is walking through anyone here...AND if someone were able to just go through Marvin, they would have to be considered the GOAT at middleweight. I'm not ready to go there myself...

Can anyone please tell me what RJJ accomplished at MW? Except for beating a green Hopkins who won needed another two attempts to win a world title, for a vacant title.
