Very clearly remember Eubank stating at the end of 92 and throughout 93 that he wanted Nunn and Toney. He wanted to try to win all four belts, as noone else had.

    V true.

Have really enjoyed all your posts on this thread as well as loudens..though in full agreement with you .id just add ....that short period from when nunn beat tate up to pre the barkley fight.....nunn had tremendous fame come his,way...he had a huge following among Hollywood A listers like Gene Hackman and Mr T...he seemed a carbon copy of SRL personality wise...hell they looked like brothers!!! Polite, well spoken and flashy skills ...of course time reveals Nunns fame and marketability in the ring was short lived.

Nowadays we have the internet and the fans are more knowledgeable, opinion is subject to debate and info is transparent....back in 1989...10-12 boxing writers on the east coast and their unchallenged opinions pretty much represented info on a boxer.....an illiterate moron like mike katz or a drunk jeff ryan was gospel.... ..wheras in 2020 you have 1000s of boxing forum posters such as yourself far more knowledgable with access to ring records and fights and interviews at a button clip that these 10-12 hacks didnt have....those hacks pretty much buried nunns career prematurely and vindictivelly....they didnt like an uppity black fighter speaking back to a bob surkein...or a dan goosen...they built him up and tore him down..

Nunn looked and sounded a million bucks here......the MR T impression...and lighthearted banter with Iran Barkley...its uncanny how similiar his voice is to ray leonard..and i liked his respectful comments about the legends..such a shame this guy didnt become that star...he had it all...to do so...be as big as srl.....

Ps : Iran Barkley is the definition of class...such a good sport here...can you inagine a punk like billy joe saunders being capable of class like this?

Nunn looked the next superstar of boxing to everyone, the darling heir apparent to Ray. I don't think that white substance you inhale through your nostrils did him any favours. And I don't think the tactics against Iran Barkley did either - never going forwards or holding his feet, springing back into the ropes as defense!

In 1990 he seemed to just fade badly. I don't know what happened.

He should've had that passing of torch fight with Leonard, and an Ali - Frazier type rivalry with Nigel Benn. As well as Duran, Hearns thrown in there too for both of them and lots of Vegas glam.

    Sad.

Youre knowledge of the scene is excellent and i like how you back it up with videos. But I would say mate..the personal attacks arent neccesary...louden is also a very good knowledgeable poster as was charley (tho i found his inflated $ figures slightly irritating)....all im saying is you along with louden, made this the best thread ive ever read on this forum in 8 years...youre far too knowledgable a poster for unnecessary nasty personal attacks. Its just a forum at the end of the day...difference of opinion makes it

You dont wanna be lumped in with a know nothing know it all like the bitter dotard on about the petronellis outsmarting themselves in a shitty thread......

Your a different class much better than that mate.no offence meant..im just saying you, louden and charley contributed to a legendary thread

Loudon's posts are almost exclusively the business side of Roy Jones Jr's career, with various dates and negotiations to vehomously defend his hero not fighting various fighters. It's certainly different

I do hope he's receiving counseling of some sort. It's worrying stuff.

    Honestly, you’re hilarious.

Debating you is even better than debating Bailey.

You look at even the C list of British middles at the time (late 1980s) ...behind the fab 5(benn,eubanks,collins,watson,graham) with Tony Sibson still around and the B level..(Errol Christie,James Cook,Rod Douglas ) and you see the strength in depth with C level guys like Milo and Johhny Melfah...a wonderful era

Christie and Douglas were the most talented of the lot. Both should of achieved more but for AWFUL management, putting Errol in with a light-heavy and Douglas in too early with Herol.

The Eubank-Douglas and Eubank-Christie sparring sessions in the late eighties were wars with breathtaking combination exchanges from start to finish, with Douglas and Christie getting the upper hand, which Eubank wanted.

Errol with bigger gloves and head gear was the best in the business. Years before he had given Hearns and McCallum 50/50 work in Kronk.

Douglas was the only guy to beat Benn in the unpaid ranks.

Why would it have been more likely that Roy would have been stopped?

Because he was knocked out in his mid 30’s and 40’s, at LHW and CW, when he was way past his best and very vulnerable?

This is prime for prime at MW-SMW.
