Tyson, Ali, Benn, Eubank, Hatton, Hamed, Oscar DLH - these are superstars. The likes of Ricardo Lopez, Roy and Calzaghe are not, they liked the country life away from the limelight.
You know I think Nunn was a stylistic nighmare for Roy and thats why he wasnt keen to make the fight.
No he didn't. Nunn, Benn and Liles were Don King fighters. Roy Jones offered fights with all of them on a 1 fight basis. All 3 were offered 7 figure sums. Don King would only allow Jones to meet his 'assets' if Jones signed himself with Don King. The result was moving to LHW where Don King didn't control the division. This is Jones dominating Liles. Liles beat Nunn at SMW. Much like Nunn, Liles was a rangy fast southpaw This content is protected
Uhhh, what are you talking about dude? Jones gave up the WBC title when Nunn was mandatory. Nunn wasn't with King. (for the record, Benn and Jones were offered 10M by HBO but 25M by King. Benn held out for 25M. Benn was making millions of dollars untaxed for fighting Wharton, Giminez, Nardiello, Perez and Malinga - far more than Jones could dream at the time.)
Nunn was offered a payday in 1998 and he didn't take it. So Jones was setting up a fight with Buster Dougler, who he ended up pulling out of. HBO are on record as stating they offered 10m to Benn and 8m to Liles.
WTF, they didn't offer 8M to ****ing Frank Liles of all people, that's fantasy money! He had zero fanfare and the fight would've been no bigger than Jones v Bryant Brannon. Stop fabricating. I heard it was a million they offered, which was VERY generous.
What 'payday' was Nunn offered in 1998!? And why? For a fight with Jones??? He was the mandatory challenger! Jones gave up the title instead of facing him. Nunn didn't have a title. You're talking horse crap.
So what it's a competitive fight, pro fights usually play out the same as amateur bouts - usually By 1998 a Nunn who lost to Liles was no threat to Jones
