Not at all. Not even close, but what this fight does demonstrate is that Jones could be gotten to by Fighters that werent in Marcianos' league.

Most boxers can knock out most boxers if they land the perfect shot.

A one punch ko is never something i'll pick. Stylistically I think Rocky will work his body, chop him down and batter him round about the 11-13 mark.

Via a different approach to any that Marciano was capable of employing.

Paulie Malignaggi got battered by Amir Khan.
    Danny Garcia knocked Khan out.

Is Garcia a better fighter than Paulie, or did he just match up better with Khan stylistically?

    Wow.

    Just wow.

When Jones was being scraped up off the canvas after the Tarver and Johnson fights, I thought:

"At least this will put an end to any speculation that he might have beaten Marciano"

Aparently the only person those punches got through to was Jones!

    :huh

Nobody is suggesting that we plonk that version of Jones in with Marciano.

Were you thinking of the version that beat Ruiz a few months earlier?

No Sir, it wouldn't need to be that version either.

We can take the Jones who fought Hall, or Reggie Johnson and use that one. I'd imagine the ring weights between that Roy and Marciano wouldn't be too far apart.

:rofl No, not really. Reguardless of approach, Griffin got to Jones, and Marciano was a far superior Fighter than Griffin. 10 Rds,or 12 Rds, Jones is in no way, or by any stretch of the imagination, a threat to Marciano. This thread reminds me of the Marciano vs. Calzaghe thread done a couple years ago. With Calzaghes Nut Huggers saying; Well, if Joe can put on 15Lbs. and with his work rate...GTFO. Marciano could take Jones and Calzaghe on the same night.

We can debate which version of Jones was best for the job, ad tedium.

Do you think that Jones might have always had some underlying weaknesses, that his competition were not able to exploit?

:patsch So? 'Griffin got to Jones, and Marciano was better than Griffin.' Jesus christ, it's like being back in the general.

Yep I do. 'The curse of the gifted' Jones had flaws which have been exposed later in his career as his physical gifts have erroded. His worst habbit in his prime, that would factor into this fight, was that he would willingly retreat to the ropes.

I consider Jones a very smart fighter, and hopefully he'd be smart enough to realise that during this fight, his back must never touch the ropes.

    Here is the problem.

While these flaws were not exposed in his prime, that has to be weighed against the fact that he was not fighting many of the the people likley to expose them.

I accept your criticism, but that is honestly what I thought at the time (after the initial shock in the Johnson case).

Nope, sorry, it doesn't work like that. Styles make fights, and so do gameplans. It doesn't matter if Marciano was a superior fighter than Griffin. Jones wasn't worried about a guy like Griffin getting to him, but it would be different against Marciano. Jones would fight Marciano in a different way, don't you see that?
