What do you know of Charles to say your reply...Do you realise that Ezzard Charles,by this time beat Jimmy Bivins twice, kod Lloyd Marshall,Archie moore, Elmer Violent Ray [ who was a big monstrous heavyweight puncher], kod big Joe Baksi 215 pound strong boy, kod Gus Lesnevich, kod Rex Layne, beat the great crafty Joe Walcott, and a still formidable Joe Louis, and YOU compare this Ezzard who proved his greatness and toughness time and again in ONE HUNDRED AND TWENTY TWO bouts,
with a true talented 168 pound Roy Jones , who was flattened by the better LHs he fought, albiet past his best ??? Do you think Roy Jones as a 168 pound fighter could have survived the animals that Ezzard Charles
prospered in...? There is more to boxing than flashiness...

Knocking someone out is not the same thing as proving your own toughness in terms of being able to take a punch. Charles was knocked down and out many times. He got the crap beat out of him at light heavy by Lloyd Marshall, who had a weak chin himself. He got knocked out by Glass Jaw Walcott in 7 rounds, but still managed to go 15 with Marciano. It just goes to show that you didn't necessarily need a great chin to go the distance with Marciano.

Also, since you call Walcott "crafty"... What's so crafty about standing right in front of Marciano, staying in his power range, and taking his punches? Jones wouldn't be doing that. Marciano was even able to land his jab on Walcott. Jones wouldn't be there for that, he would be moving around a lot more, turning Marciano, and Marciano would have to expend a lot more energy following him around. As Rocky stalks, he will be walking into left hooks and right hands over and over, and it will take its toll.

Respectfully your reply doesn't deserve a response...You are right about ONE thing. Jones wouldn't be in a position for Rocky to land a jab on Jones as you claim. True Rocky would have had to have a LONG jab to reach Jones who would be in a Hospital, a distance away...:hi::hi::hi:

Honestly, Burt, if it wasn't for Jones' questionable chin, I'd pick him to beat and clown your boy Rocky every time with no problem. As it stands, I'd still say he's something like 3-2 favorite. The gap in speed would be absolutely staggering. Unless Marciano can change his style, get out of the sideways crouch to move around quicker, and up his pace, he has little more than a puncher's chance.

I personally think the Jersey Joe Walcott of September 1952 knocks out Roy Jones

Roy Jones was a glorified champion who is and always has been overated..He spent his whole career fighting taxi cab drivers, self proclaimed best P4P fighter in the world..He scraped the bottom of the HW barrel to fight Ruiz ( who was a Joke himself )..And then JR couldnt get out of the HW division fast enough as soon as boxing writers started askin about fighting Lewis or Holyfield....Then came Tarver to expose Roy for what he really is...A "D" level champion. And no im not talkin about a 168 lb JR BURT BIENSTOCK...Roys legacy is a joke at best!...And Marciano woulda beat him like he was his personal little bitchboy, I dont see JR makin outa the 6th..PERIOD
