How would the Roy Jones that defeated Hopkins do against Ray Leonard?

Leonard is the greater boxer, but realistically, Jones would dominate him.

I think he would win by decision. He would be too fast even for Leonard (the version who faced Hagler) and would probably potshot his way to a decision. Leonard would have his moments, but Jones takes it.

If he felt that Leonard's power didn't warrant enough respect he might even go for the KO. Don't think he would get it, though.

Considering that Leonard was past his prime by the time he reached the middleweight ranks, and fought very few times there, I'd have to realistically favor Roy Jones. Leonard still probably was a bit quicker on his feet, but I think Jones may have had more hand speed. Jones was also a bit more athletic by this point, fighting more frequently and had a better blend of power, accuracy, etc..

The size would be the difference, Jones by decision.

p4p goes to SRL tho IMO.

Roy would beat him worse than Norris did.

i agree, i think leonard would know exactly what to do against a young roy, but may not be able to do it due to the latter point of his career.

this fight reminds me of pazienza-duran,

there was commentator that said that duran actually saw the opening against paz but did not have the reflexs of before. paz won by his youth and i think so would jones.

Even P4P... Jones would be a difficult fight for Leonard. If we take the 168 Roy vs the 147 Leonard in a P4P matchup.. we have one helluva interesting fight. As fast as a prime Leonard was... and he was SOO ****in fast... Roy was a bit faster. That in itself would have been a problem for Leonard. In the end I favor Leonard P4P... but only by a lil bit.

H2H a prime Jones has a chance with any fighter in history. He was that good.

Thats a bad analogy. A prime Duran would have raped Paz. But a prime Leonard wouldnt **** Roy.

iMO I see this as a fight not worth spending money on other than the fighters involved. I see both fighters giving each other a lot of respect and having a scratch and sniff affair, with Roy having better moments due to his youth and physical advantages (size and hand speed).

I think Roy at his MW best would have knocked out the Leonard that fought Hagler.

Well you might have a point there. I could see Roy having alot of respect for Leonard, and carrying him. Afterall, he probably carried McCallum outta respect.

As opposed to Norris.. he was just a sadistic fighter who didnt give a **** that Leonard was his idol. He still went out to try n kill. Thats one thing I always loved about Terrible Terry. He seemed to crave violence in the ring.

Leonard would have nothing to trouble Jones at this weight. It's a bad fight for Ray. P4P they would match up great.
