How competitive is this fight at Middleweight? Is it one of those fights, where if you ran simulation s of the two battling ten times, then it would probably come out 5 wins a piece? Myself,if it's a 12 rounds then Jones nicks it. A 15 rounds, then Sugar Ray grabs it.
Middleweight is probably the only battleground that this match could realistically take place. Jones, though already amazing even at 160 was still a work in progress and wouldn’t see his best days until he was at 168 and 175. For this reason I may lean towards Robinson by a decision.
agreed, Jones only started coming into his prime in his final fight @ the weight vs. Tate IMO. maybe Jones on the night he beat Tate might've been a h2h threat to any mw in history, but that's far too small of a window to judge him w/ certainty IMO.
Robinson by KO in a 15 round fight, some time in the fight he'll catch Roy with a lightening short hook and wobble him and Ray will finish him, though Roy will put up a good fight he but relies on reflexes not sound technical boxing and Sugar Ray would set him up.
I'm taking sweet as sugar by dec at mw as in my opinion capt left hook was still just a tad bit green then and primed more or less between 168 and 175. but a weight above or so and capt is taking it pretty comfortably possibly by late stoppage.
Roy would be too much for Robinson. Difficult matchup to make. Roy would've been skin and bones at 147 where Robinson would probably be the most comfortable. And Robinson would be too sluggish at 168-175.
Roy would be too big for Robinson. If they were fighting at 147, Robinson all day. But at middleweight, I think Roy is too strong.
This matchup always intrigued me. Back in the day, I would have picked Roy over everyone. Now, I'm not so sure. I do think of Roy as being the naturally bigger guy. For example, I don't see Robinson moving up to take on Jones for the Lt. Heavy title like he did Maxim, Roy punched too hard. He took on Maxim because he wasn't a puncher. At middleweight it would have been interesting. I'm starting to think now that Robinson would have found a way to win and at some point would have gotten in his shot and caught Roy.
