Malinga gave Benn and Eubank hell, didnt Malinga beat Benn before Benn had a pruposed match with Jones?

Jones was just on a different level to the other great fighters. Virtuoso is the only way to describe him.

malinga was prime at this point...he even beat Robin Reid befor eCalzaghe faced him.

the same Robin Reid who took a prime Joe to a SD.

Why didnt Joe face Malinga instead of Reid??

brilliant watching him work. malinga was a different type of opponent and jones could do his usual blitz as he was too goddamn tough. rjj made subtle adjustments and as always, picked him apart with speed.

wasn't Malinga a part time sanitation worker. Pretty typical opponent of Roy. He loved beating up on policemen, sanitation workers, trash collectors, firefighters, etc.

nope, just stating facts. It's well known that these were typical Roy opponents back in the day.

no offense is this a carbon copy of another post from another thread about jones? did you just cut and paste from there.

look up malinga: as with MOST of jones opposition he was the real deal. he fought the best, beat more than a few and was a damn tough opponent for anyone. an atg no, but a top contender who was brutalized and destroyed by jones.

with jones it was never just who he beat but how.

he fought 1 cop (frazier) and a shitload of top contenders. it's not really a fact, it's hate.

but we're all allowed to hate (for instance i despise valuev for no particular reason). you clearly hate jones.

Damn son. I thought you knew boxing. Malinga is no opponent to criticize iun this way to do so is to put down Benn, Eubanks, Reid, and others. Shameful:verysad

exactly, i'm a huge fan of roys but i'll be the first to admit his competition was lacking...but malinga is NOT an opponent you should trash. i hate boxrec but if you don't know the man, check out his record. he was right in the mix in the 90s and earned that fight

Just a couple of points. Benn wasn't really in his 'prime' against Malinga. I don't think he was shot, but this was still a good year ago the McClellan fight and that take a helluva lot out of him.

As for Calzaghe not fighting Malinga instead of Reid, Malinga already had a WBC title defence lined up against Richie Woodhall, so Calzaghe fought Reid instead. Malinga lost that bout to Woodhall, which take place about 3 weeks after I think.
