Roy Jones Jr vs Tommy Morrison at heavyweight. Jones defeated John Ruiz for a heavyweight title, could Roy do the same to Tommy?

    No.

Now if we said neither used steroids ever, maybe he could. Morrison likely got more out of it as a slugger.
But as is, Morrison's flaws were not the type Jones could exploit well at his strength.

Yeah this is definitely one of the better and more original fantasy match ups I've seen of late

    Good fight

I think Jones by decision would be the most likely outcome, but Jones would be walking a tightrope.

Tommy Morrison only lost to 3 guys and they were all legit heavyweights. Lennox Lewis all time great , Ray Mercer a top contender and Michael Bent a good amateur and good pro. All of these guys could punch at heavyweight. Roy Jones has no chance. Tommy Morrison is a much better fighter than John Ruiz.

Ruiz was warned early by the referee for clinching. Then after the first few rounds, he seemed deterred by Roy’s hand speed. He stood off of him and wouldn’t press him. Roy got his respect. It was a very comfortable night for him.

Against Tommy, I think it’d have been a different fight altogether.

As a huge fan of Roy’s, I wouldn’t have liked to have seen this.

I think you’d have had to have heavily favoured Tommy here.

Scary fight for Jones. I can see Tommy behind on points, then Morrison s killer hook putting him unconscious.

Very debatable. Their resumes and overall boxing ability and performances h2h aren't that far apart.

I'd favor Morrison, but he certainly wasn't in a league of his own compared to Ruiz.

    I favor Ruiz’s resume by a lot.

Roy knocks Tommy out in the mid rounds once Tommy starts gassing. The skill gap is enormous.

Ruiz was as good as it gets for Jones at HW. A very low bar.

That bar was lowered even more by a ref who wouldn’t at least let Ruiz fight his usual fight and impose his size so really, the challenge that Ruiz was supposed to present was removed anyway.

Morrison was better than Ruiz. He would be too much for Roy and in this particular fight the ref won’t be able to protect Jones.

Roy was to good to fast at his best. Roy could fight him at 190 and pick him apart. I think people make to big a deal of his chin as if at his best he was getting hurt all the time. Only when he got old did he have chin problems. Tommy always has a solid punchers chance and makes it a better fight then Ruiz

Tommy smashes him to bits. I don't fancy RJJ's shaky chin against any heavyweight that combined a big punch with an offensive mindset and some skill. "When Tommy gasses" opinions can be discarded ... when Tommy gasses Jones will be on the way to the hospital. RJJ's team briefly flirted with the idea of him fighting Sanders but Jones shot that idea down soon enough.

Ruiz was about as good as it gets for Jones at HW and let's be fair: it's a hell of an achievement for a 160 fighter to ever beat a top heavyweight, stylistic advantage or no.
