You love using shot weight drained Jones as an example. LOL

We are referring here to the versions of each man that fought at HW as HWs.

Jones best win and only win at HW was a UD over John Ruiz. Immediately after he dropped back down to LHW he was ironed out cold by Tarver and Glenn Johnson inside 6 months. Those losses need to come into the conversation as they are so close to his one fight at HW.

Toney holds a knock out victory over the iron jawed Evander Holyfield. He also has a UD win over John Ruiz which was changed to a NC due to him popping for a PED.

I give the edge here to Toney, as Jones was significantly slower at HW and didn’t belong at that weight. Toney was very comfortable at HW weight and fought there for a number of years.

From MW to LHW it’s clear Jones beats Toney at every stage of their careers in their primes.

However, at HW it’s Toney for me.

In almost every thread, you pick Hopkins. I on the other hand had no problem of picking other fighters to beat Toney.

So you think all there is to know is what happened in their prime some 40 pounds south. This is heavyweight, dude. No offense, but sometimes one can see from your posts that you never boxed before.

He was not weight drained against Tarver II and Johnson, dude. He was just getting old, deterioation of reflexes and movement. Roy was a fighter that relied on his athletisicm a lot. Some fighter age better than other and Roy was not one of them. Neither was he a heavyweight.

You must be confusing me with another poster. Actually I picked Vitali and Lewis to beat Toney. You can look up the relevant threads.

Dude you even felt the need to announce you scored that non entity debacle the other day for Toney. You gave Toney three rounds against Jones.

I do pick Hopkins over the vast majority and have outlined the reasons why many times. At least i'm not picking him over people that flogged the crap out of him and made him look like a fool.

Jones had one fight at heavyweight and was extremely slick and fast and didn't run out of gas. This is exactly what he needs to school Toney again.

Talk of what happened when he moved back down is irrelevant as many have attributed this big weight fluctuation as the tipping point of his career.

No offense, but emotion based posts are common for you when it comes to fighters you love or hate. That old chestnut claim about people haven't boxed is as old as the forum itself and ridiculously desperate.

John, I think he means Jones though. Jones would never have fought the big heavyweights like Vitali, Lewis, Rahman or Peter. You seem to have a misconception about Roy as a heavyweight. According to his own words, Jones was never a heavyweight and picked up the one fight in Ruiz he knew he could win.

Yes Jones admitted all of that at the time. His own words. He didn’t want to stay at HW as he knew he couldn’t compete with best. He admitted John Ruiz was a cherry pick so he could tick a box that he won a HW title.

I could be wrong, you know. Jones might win at heavyweight as well. I just favour Toney there. I do not think Jones looked that impressive in his one outing at heavyweight, I disagree with you there.Yes he was still lightming fast and that would give Toney fits but he also more stationary and his reflexes seemed to diminish. And the limited Ruiz really fought a terrible fight in there IMO.

In this thread you claim Vitali ducked Toney.

Well by that analogy Sugar Ray Leonard could never take a punch since a feather fisted Hector Camacho stopped him.

He was talking about you and Toney when he said this - "He thinks this because Toney beat a shot Holyfield that Toney would have a shot with super heavyweights like the Klitschkos and Lennox Lewis."

Next post same conversation he named Jones - the conversation was Toney. He meant Toney for mine.

At any rate Jones wouldn't compete against those guys either, just like Toney wouldn't.

What misconception? You claim me to have a misconception about Jones as a heavyweight because i picked him to beat *gasp* James Toney at heavyweight? Get a grip on yourself. Toney wasn't that much of a heavyweight either. He was ok against certain styles and lower level guys, like Jones.

Toney was able in to compete I'm a very weak heavyweight division in the mid to late 2000's.

Yeah, he did duck him. They wanted Wlad to face Toney instead. Wlad was the better boxer who had a good track record against slick fighters. Toney would make Vitali bad and that is why Vitali avoided hin. But I never once said that Toney would beat Vitali.

Either of us could be right or wrong. I'll stick with Jones per the points I've made.

In this thread seven people have picked Jones (all virtually stating identical reasons!) and just you and one other have picked Toney. I'm happy with where i sit, extremely happy.
