    Roy Jones Jr. knocked that amateur MMA fighter named Vyron Phillips out on Sunday night in Phoenix, Arizona, but he will have a much tougher foe next time. According to Russian boxing insider Danila Rafaelovich the 47-year-old veteran Russian boxer will face the winner of this fight:

    He loves to compete, sure, but owes all of his success (and the luxury of having been able to compete for his entire adult life without ever getting a real job) to his loyal fan base from his prime, none of whom are happy with him pissing all over his legacy as he's doing lately. :nono

    Good lord, Phillips is AWFUL.

    Lunging in like that defenseless is stupid in a bar-fight with some dad-bodied fellow drunk, let alone versus a guy that used to be the p4p #1 on the planet, 47 or not... :-(

    He deserved every iota of impact from that looping right for that stupidity.

    What? Serious question. I did some reading about the PPV and it features all different flavors of combat sport. The so-called "boxing" portion even if under normal pro rules could well be semi-pro or unlicensed, kind of like Bigger's Better, or WSB, or BKB.

    The fact that Vyron Phillips has never even debuted in real boxing and that BoxRec doesn't list him as next for Jones or even have an event page for March 20th in Phoenix makes it pretty much a given that RJJ won't be officially having bout #72 here..

    It's crazy.

    A few weeks ago, the Arizona state commission stated that they would only sanction a fight against a boxer with a proven record, not a fan or someone with no boxing experience. Then it went quiet, and now he's facing Phillips. So either some money's changed hands, or it's just an exhibition.

    Like yourself, I went on Boxrec and saw that he wasn't listed. So I'm going to assume that this is going to be a 5 rounder or something similar, with headgear. There's no way it can be an official fight. In my opinion, they purposely won't be disclosing it on their website.

    The funny thing is, I'm actually looking forward to this nostalgic card. It's just a shame that Ken Shamrock isn't fighting Dan Severn as first reported.

    ^ Ken doesn't really deserve the payday, after his pathetic showing in the Gracie rubber match.

    Tank Abbott, though, I always had a soft spot for - glad he'll make a few bucks.
