This content is protected Roy Jones Jr shows what giving back is all about This content is protected The legendary Roy Jones Jr hosted this years Southern Association boxing tournament. Roy's historic boxing career speaks for itself, but when a legend gives back to the youth of the sport it goes beyond measure. The tournament was held in Pensacola, Florida and young fighters from Louisiana to Florida all had their chance to fight in front of a legend. After each bout the participants were awarded a trophy hand delivered by Roy himself! Stan Nichols, the President of USA Boxing's Southern Association had this to say about Roy's generosity, " It's quite an honor for a legend like Roy Jones Jr to give back to the kids like this. The smiles on each participants face were priceless." Jones, who recently came up short against Bernard Hopkins had a great time with the amateurs as well. Nichols added, "Roy really seemed like he was having a great time. He was mobbed by the kids, each wanting a picture or an autograph, and Roy was happy to do it." The sport of boxing desperately needs to support the amateur program. There needs to be more professional fighters that have made a lot of money giving back to the sport. If more people like Roy Jones Jr would give back to the amateur program it would improve dramatically. 8CountNews congratulates Roy Jones Jr for a job well done!
well hopkins beat him very convincingly and he looked completely finished threw only 9 punches in one of the rounds jus tried to survive in a very boring fight his twitter page did mention bout moving up 2 heavyweight again either he was severly weight drained against hopkins or hes finished and has gone mad
then again him and hopkins must hav dun sum damage 2 eachother cuz i aint eard nothing from b hop either
He still is. No one gets on Foreman for losing when he was 40+ , nobody takes away from Ali for losing to Holmes and Berbick and Spinx. RJJ is still one of the greatest of all time and his losses after his decline take nothing away from his greatness.
yes but unfortunatly to alot of people they keep there last few years in the sport stuck in there head i remember espn put him further down in the top 50 list because of his losses at the end of his career
:good Good posts. Roy would've lost eventually because age catches up with everyone. The ones that retired without ever losing that "0" did it just in time to avoid it even to some degree.
IF ESPN did that, that just shows you how worthless the boxing analysis at ESPN is, it doesn't change the fact that in his prime RJJ was unbeatable.
RJJ relied to much on his god given talent. If he mastered his craft he would have been untouchable. As soon as he lost a little bit of reflexes he was easily timed. I think he is p4p and ATG but he could have been so much more.
i know i agree they did the first one then changed it and took the likes of barrera morales and de la hoya of completely because of the amoutn of times they lost
