Roy Jones Jr - what I've been saying all along

Done and done. Anyone saying otherwise is either an idiot and cant fathom how styles match up (the differences between Lacy and Dawson and how a way past prime Roy would handle them). Or a Calzaghe fan, trying to add credibility to there boy's record.

 

Jones would have to change his regiment to include
running 10 miles a day to fight Dawson. He couldn't let Dawson t off on him.
He would have to not go back to the ropes but use foot work to circle Dawson and IF he could do that he would win hands down.

 

first. wether you are a fan of joe calzaghe or not, you need to know the guy was brilliant. a boxer. a better boxer than rjj and chad. no qualifying roy of what vintage. calzaghe was flat a boxing genius master of spacing. that said, he's retired. so it's ok for me to talk about how good he was.
as for those who are active in their fighting careers, i preffer to keep my opinions quiet as they tend to be worth money
i will say this. dawson is set to fight glen johnson. tarver is stuck in limbo, wanting dawson but already having lost to him twice. evryone who says jones should fight bhop, have to realise bernard is the oldest of the bunch. bernards last fight was beating pavlik, folks.
if hop calls out dawson, he should get a shot way before roy jones. then again dawson still gotta get by johnson. regardless, the winner of dawson vs johnson should have to immediately see bhop to find out if he wants a shot.

I said that I thought Jones could possibly beat dawson months ago. Jones still has good reflexes and incredibly fast hands, and Dawson while gifted' doesn't have high enough workrate tto trouble Jones like Calzaghe did.

 

Yo Paul, you do know that Dawson owned Tarver x2, who Jones decisively lost a rubber match to, once by KO 2. I'm not a RJJ hater btw. I just realize that Lacy was beyond shot. They guy should have hanged them up long ago. Roy may as well have been in there with a heavy bag.

I think people are putting way too much stock in this win just because Lacy was finally stopped by someone. As damaged and deteriorated he was, that was long overdue.

1) The Tarver that lost to Chad Dawson was not as good as the one who beat Roy Jones.

2) Roy Jones was messed up Bad from having to lose 20lbs of muscle to get back down to LHW.

3) Excuses aside' lets just say Tarver beat him. So what? You can't compare common opponents like that and then try and then proclaim who's gonna win. It jst doesn't work like that.

Ex: Taylor beats Hopkins twice. Pavlik beats taylor twice including a KO. By ur logic Pavlik should've whooped Hopkins but we all know what happened. i could give other examples but u get the picture.

The fact is screw that it was Jeff Lacy, Roy still has the talent to compete in the upper echelon of the LHW division. People forget that Roy was the faster fighter' and was taking it to Calazghe in the first few rounds. H ejust got outworked' but tell me who the hell else has Calzaghe's workrate and stamina?

 

I didn't go into a whole lot of specifics with that quick post, but your post didn't demonstrate a great deal of boxing savvy either. :smoke My boxing IQ is high enough to know that Dawson would more than likely mess Roy Jones up. Roy needs to rematch Glencoffe Johnson whether Glen loses his rematch to Chad or not, or he should go and get Tarver out of retirement. Roy has unfinished business with the guy's who put him to sleep.

Before Chad embarrassed Tarver in their first meeting, Tarver was in exactly the same situation as Jones is for beating Lacy -- he had just embarrased Clinton Woods (who wasn't shot) and looked to be back in top form. That was until Dawson got to him.

Lacy was DONE. This win proves **** all to me. Jones is still naturally gifted, but he's not the Jones he used to be either. He will never be where he was before the first Tarver rematch. The fluctuating weight takes a toll on you.

If Dawson gets by Johnson, then I'd love to see him fight Roy. He'll be criticized for being old and shot if Chad wins.

 

You never saw the Dawson vs Johnson fight so dont even act like you have. I scored the fight a draw. And thats was by me giving Johnson all the swing rounds.

Dawson was still alot more competitive then Jones was who lost every round and got KO'd.

Adamek can "bang" with the best of them because their is nobody at cruiser as good as Dawson. Dawson whipped Adamek, he whipped Tarver and he'd whip a shot old Jones.

Chad Dawson would beat Calzaghe. Dawson is bigger, stronger and just as fast. The only thing Calzaghe has over him is activity. But given that Dawson was able to hurt Adamek, and how Calzaghe was dropped by past it Hopkins and a shot Roy Jones, I can see him easily making Calzaghe think before throwing his slaps.

Roy Jones starching? Jones couldnt beat Tarver, couldnt beat Johnson, but because he beat a shot Sheika and neverwas Lacy he is now a top lightheavyweight rofl?

There are atleast 5 LHW I'd place above Jones right now. Pascal would beat Jones.
