ROY JONES JR - 'Why aren't I judged by the same criteria as ALI & ROBINSON?!'

School Ray Robinson? Oh Lord!!!!!!

 

Well he looked good against Toney but the fact is Toney embarressed himself with his preparation for that fight. He had to lose so much weight he was drained and weak and I read where he took IV's for a few days instead of eating to make weight. He looked it.

 

Maxim was cherrypicked because he couldn't punch very hard. Roy won, Robinson lost.

 

RJJ was bigger AND faster than SRR. Now, there are other intangibles to consider. School him? Maybe not, but H2H he beats him.

 

Hopkins avoided a Jones rematch for years. Since they was no money fights at cruiserweight and he had cleaned out the light heavyweight division he cherry picked the worst out of the heavyweight champions.

 

Define "money fight". Jones turned down 4.5 million USD for a Jirov fight.

 

Holyfield was way psst prime.

 

He made 10 million in the Ruiz fight.

 

Was 4.5 million not enough for Jones? He demanded big money despite not being a PPV attraction.

 

Roy Jones Jr doesn't have a résumé to compare with Ray Robinson obviously.
But his achievements are plenty.

 

He wasn't a puncher but that doesn't mean he couldn't fight. Maxim has wins over Floyd Patterson, Jersey Joe Walcott, Jimmy Bivins, Charley Burley, Freddie Mills etc. He was the legit light heavyweight champion back then. He was not a cherry pick or an easy opponent back then. He literally fought everyone in his era.

 

Actually that's a good comparison.

 

Yep. But the thing about Jones is how he beat those guys. These were guys that gave Toney, Eubank, Collins and Benn some real issues and he treated them like junior sparring partners. That is a truly rare thing.

With that said, his resume just is a ways behind Robinson's. He might have an argument with Ali if you think the different weight classes he competed in makes a difference.

 

Still a great fighter but those ko losses take away some of the shine.
