He doesn't have wins over the best LHWs of his era, though, only losses. Moore said he had to accept to get no money to get his shot at Maxim (doesn't have to be true, but Moore and Charles were avoided).

Malinga is a good one, especially seeing how one sided it was. A guy who gave Eubank and Benn all they could handle and he couldn't lay a glove on Roy.

Tate and and Sosa were also known to trouble good fighters and he blew though them. Not to mention Griifin, Hill and Johnson.

Add to that what he did to Hopkins and Toney, and you have what you would ask of a truly great fighter. Just didn't have the number of fights SRR did and can't match up achievement wise for that reason.

I'm not claiming that he was better than Moore or Charles (how many fighters were)? I'm saying he was the champ at the time Ray fought him and wasn't a cherry pick as that ****ing idiot was claiming. Maxim lost five times to Charles but he did beat some great fighters like Bivins, Patterson, Mills, Walcott etc. Again, HE WAS THE CHAMP at 175 when Ray fought him.

Pretty sure Maxim didn't fight Burley.

    It’s not real.

(Toney was less than a shell of himself that night for what it’s worth)

Look at you go. No-one seems to get hit as hard as Jones when it comes to post prime losses and Jones fall was sudden and vertical. Even as things stand our own Matt McGrain has him #29. If he retired post Ruiz i feel he would have had him top 10.

If he’d of faced and beat Lennox Lewis, the real champion, that would’ve impressed me.

John Ruiz is probably the worst I’ve ever seen.

Yep your right. I was wrong about Burley. In fact, I was wrong about Joey Maxim. He was a cherry pick and a shitty fighter. I don't have any idea what I'm talking about just like Joey Maxim couldn't fight and Sugar Ray Robinson tried to cherry pick his way to the 175 pound crown. I will stand down from this thread. You guys can have it.

This. If you lose when you're 29 you just have to accept that you were not the better man that night. It is what it is. But when you're over 35 or under 23 it seems disingenuous to put much stock in those losses.

I’d say only Ray Robinson could be accused of cherrypicking his opponent when that opponent is the undisputed light heavyweight champion of the world and Robinson was a middleweight but I’m pretty sure Sugar Ray Leonard has been accused of cherrypicking when facing Marvin Hagler after basically a 5 year lay off.

Either way, it’s an absurd statement.
