I think Jones would have beat him, but Michalczewki was a long reigning and undefeated champfor years.. Jones was busy fighting no hopers when he could have fought Michaelczewski who was Highly regarded and the best available opponent... Jones always brought up how he didnt want to go to europe etc etc.. Same reason he didnt fight Calzaghe(in his prime) or Eubank,Benn.

Mccellan probalblywould have had the best shot against a prime JOnes.. As him and Jones split a few fights in the amatuers, so he knew something on how to beat Roy, combined with his awesome power.? Id would have given him the best shot.... He would respect Benn box him and then school him and knock him out... Hed beat Eubank by wide decision... Also beats Michalcewski by convincing decision.

Wally Carr would have pushed him to his limits.

It's weird, A. I find myself agreeing with all of your posts these days. What's the deal?

If Hearns had a better chin i would pick him over Jones style wise he would have the tools... However Jones was a huge puncher at MW and would have ended it.:dead Another guy who might have given Jones fits was a prime Michael Nunn at Mw.

James Toney and Bernard Hopkins are better than anybody Roy Jones didn't face though.

I would pick Jones over Hearns, Duran and Leonard with complete confidence. 60/40 in favour of Jones over Hagler i think.

Im actually a bigger Hagler fan than Jones. But i think Roy would be all wrong for Hagler.. He wouldnt fight Haglers fight and that would be Marvins only shot, believe this Jones would fight a safe fightbe on his bike but still land his share and even get haglers respect... See the Leonard/Hagler fight but more convincing for RJ as he was bigger, stronger and hit alot harder than SRL at mw.

Whitaker. Maybe Ricardo Lopez looked just as special for a spell.

Not as surprised as me. I was almost certain you'd be saying something along the lines of, "Jones? ...Overrated".

    :good

Yes also Prime Duran at Lw,Prime Ali, SRL at welter, and believe it or not Evander Holyfield at cruiser he was a little green when he fought Qawi the first time but that fight made him better after that he blew out qawi in the rematch and domiinated some good cruisers, pfp in hth matchups Evander is almost unbeateable at cruiser. Shortly after that he was tacklin big talented heavys and winning big. His jump from cruiser to heavy was far more impressive than Adameks and especially Hayes... He had a great chin and sharp power at heavy.. At cruiser he had Lamotta like chin and big power. Evander was always to dominant for his natureal weight classes, even in the olympics he was a man among boys and knocking everyone out before he was robbed,

PS Salvador Sanchez at FW,,,,, Also Chavez at Lw was pretty awesome(his best weight)

Actually his Power and Speed was awesome at Jr feather and feather too.. Only thing is he was too reckless and as Morales later showed not unbeateable..... If Manny knew then (more complete fighter)what he knew now then wed be talking one of the most awesome fighting machines ever.

PS He still has good power and speed at welter but not the concussie one punch like at jf and fw... He is also undersized which is not an issue now, but if big welters with speedand power like Hearns,Leonard,Prime ODLH were still around Manny would be in trouble.

I think he looked as good as he ever has against Cotto and against a better opponent than Jones faced in most of his fights. I think he deserves be named here. Since the 90s for me it´s between Whitaker and Pac. Jones surely looked awesome but like already pointed out he didn´t really prove it against the best, like the other two did. There are more question marks about Jones than about those two.

The first Tarver fight saw him take allot of clean hard punches and Tarver could certainly bang as Harding would certaint attest too:

Around 4:07 onwards, Ruiz isn't a monster puncher but he did put Holyfield down and he is a HW
